Jordison Leaps Ahead; Hendrix and Ausmus Still in the Mix

Level 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Angela Jordison
Angela Jordison

Angela Jordison has gone on an early charge in Day 2 play and she's now among the leaders. Unofficially, Jordison can take the lead in the Global Poker Index Mid-Major Player of the Year race with a first or second-place finish.

Elsewhere in the room, Adam Hendrix and Jeremy Ausmus have the opportunity to catch Stephen Song for GPI Player of the Year.

The math is unofficial, but:

  • If Ausmus finishes third or worse, Hendrix can take the lead with a seventh-place finish or better
  • If Hendrix finishes fifth or worse, Ausmus can take the lead with a first or second-place finish
  • Hendrix would take the lead with a second-place finish, even if he loses in heads-up play to Ausmus.

These, among several other scenarios, are all in play in today's MSPT Venetian Main Event.

Berkenkamp Leaves Tapang With Crumbs

Level 17 : Blinds 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante

Action was heads up with 44,000 in the middle and {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs} when Jeffrey Berkenkamp checked and Maria Tapang bet 55,000. Berkenkamp responded with a shove for a total of 120,000 and Tapang sat back with just a bit more.

After a few moments of thought, Tapang tossed in the chips to call and turned over {4-Spades}{2-Diamonds} for the lead with a pair of deuces. Berkenkamp showed {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} with no pair but two over cards.

The turn and river ran out {10-Clubs}{k-Spades} and Berkenkamp made a pair of kings on the river to double through Tapang and leave her with crumbs. She was eliminated a short time later.

Lendvai Takes From Shiller; Cheng Doubles Through Shulman

Level 16 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante

Action was heads up with {7-Spades}{10-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} on the board when Brendan Shiller bet 65,000 from the small blind and Tama Lendvai called from the next seat over. Shiller turned over {j-Spades}{9-Clubs} for the missed straight draw and Lendvai showed {q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} to take the pot with a pair of queens.

A few tables over, Ting Cheng got his last 87,000 in with {a-Spades}{q-Clubs} against the {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} of Barry Shulman. The board ran out {3-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{q-Spades}{6-Hearts} and Cheng secured the double with a pair of queens on the turn.
