Bullet Through the Heart of Andre Verardi

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Andre Verardi
Andre Verardi

Andre Verardi moved all in for 70,000 from the cutoff and Adam Demersseman called from the small blind.

Adam Demersseman: {a-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Andre Verardi: {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}

Verardi was out in front, but disaster struck when the flop fell {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} to pair Demersseman's ace. That left Verardi looking for the case nine, but it didn't come as the {6-Spades} and {7-Clubs} appeared on the turn and river respectively.

Verardi was eliminated in 67th place for $2,290.

2021 MSPT South Dakota State Poker Championship Coming Up Next Weekend

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Silverado Deadwood
Silverado Deadwood

After the MSPT leaves California, they’ll head back to the Midwest to Silverado-Franklin Casino in Deadwood for the $1,100 South Dakota State Poker Championship from May 14-16, 2021.

In the past, the South Dakota State Poker Championship has been a standalone event at Silverado-Franklin dating back to 2011, but in 2018 they joined forces with the MSPT. In 2017, Ryan Skluzak topped a field of 136 entries to win the 2017 South Dakota State Poker Championship for $37,500. The first year partnered with the MSPT, the field grew to 286 runners and saw Rick Burleson take it down for $63,462, and in 2019 it was Sergio Mireles besting a 258-entry field to win it for $60,946.

The Silverado-Franklin Hotel & Gaming Complex offers more than 360 different slot machines, Deadwood’s largest table games area (Caribbean Stud, 4-Card Poker, Let It Ride, and 3-Card Poker all with a $1,000 betting limit), and a poker room. In addition, there is great food and drink options at Legends Steakhouse, Silverado Grand Buffet, and the Veranda, which offers unique views of historic Mount Moriah Cemetery, White Rocks, and the town of Deadwood.

Deadwood is known for many things but for poker players it's perhaps best known for aces and eights, otherwise known as the Deadman’s Hand. In 1876, Wild Bill Hickok held that hand in a game of poker at a saloon just a few blocks from the present-day Silverado when he was shot by Jack McCall.

Terence Reid Bubbles MSPT Sycuan Main Event

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Terence Reid
Terence Reid

Terence Reid got his stack of 99,000 all in preflop and was looking to stay alive against Zach Gutierrez.

Terence Reid: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}
Zach Gutierrez: {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

Reid was behind and things got worse when the {2-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop paired Gutierrez. The {k-Clubs} turn kept Reid drawing live, but he whiffed on the {10-Clubs} river.

Reid left empty-handed in 73rd place, thus ensuring the remaining players at least $2,290 in prize money.

Joe Zona Ousted Short of the Money

Level 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Joe Zona
Joe Zona

Just a couple spots off the money, Joe Zona got his stack of approximately 70,000 all in preflop and was looking to get lucky against Anthony Potis.

Anthony Potis: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Joe Zona: {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

The {3-Clubs}{10-Spades}{q-Spades} flop didn't do Zona any favors and neither did the {5-Hearts} turn. Zona needed to catch a nine on the river to survive, but that didn't happen as the {5-Spades} paired the board instead.

Abbas Alikhani Coolered in the Early Going

Level 15 : 3,000/5,000, 5,000 ante

Kyna England opened with a raise from the lojack and Abbas Alikhani responded with a three-bet to 32,000 from the cutoff. Action folded back to England and she jammed it in for 224,000.

"I don't think I can fold this," Alikhani said as the dealer counted down England's stack. Alikhani had approximately 130,000 back and did in fact call off.

Abbas Alikhani: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Kyna England: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}

Alikhani was dominated and failed to get lucky as the board ran out {4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{6-Spades}.

"Good luck," Alikhani offered before exiting the tournament short of the money.
