Ozturk Toasts Rogowski in Dramatic Fashion

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Andy Rogowski
Andy Rogowski

Raucous was overheard coming from Table 2 and it turned out to not be unwarranted as Umut Ozturk and Andy Rogowski had just ridden a roller coaster of a runout after getting stacks all in preflop. According to tablemate Aaron Massey, Ozturk was in the cutoff and opened. Rogowski three-bet all in from the button and Ozturk called.

Andy Rogowski: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}
Umut Ozturk: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}

Rogowski found himself in a cooler situation with his ace-king up against Ozturk's aces. However, the flop came {k-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} to give Rogowski trip kings. Only one card in the deck would spell disaster for him.

Then the fireworks really flew: Ozturk hit the case ace as the turn fell {a-Hearts} to deliver a one outer to Rogowski and leave him drawing dead for the river {j-Clubs}. Stacks were counted to confirm, but Ozturk was out in front and sent Rogowski to the rail as the pot was shipped his way.

Wazwaz Over a Quarter-Million

Stacks got in before the flop in what turned out to be a massive pot between Robert Mitchell, who was under the gun, and Rob Wazwaz, who was in the small blind. After the hand, Wazwaz was happy to recap the hand.

According to Wazwaz, Mitchell opened to 6,500 from under the gun. George Dietz was on the button and called, and Wazwaz three-bet to 32,000. Wazwaz continued, "He (Mitchell) thought I had dog shit and went all in for 130,000 (effective) with ten-nine suited, and I called him with two black kings!"

Rob Wazwaz: {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}
Robert Mitchell: {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

The board ran out {3-Clubs}{j-Spades}{5-Clubs}{a-Spades}{k-Hearts} to give Wazwaz no sweat and a set of kings to go along with it. His stack was pushed forward and totaled to be 129,500, and Mitchell paid him what he owed, leaving him with one of the shorter stacks in the evening with less than an hour of play left in the day.

Ozturk in Search of the Loch Ness Monster

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 3,000 ante
Umut Ozturk
Umut Ozturk

A player was standing up with a runout visibly finishing and proceeded to leave the tournament area shortly thereafter, having been eliminated by Umut Ozturk, who shared details of the hand afterward.

According to Ozturk, preflop action folded around to the hijack and he limped in before Umut Ozturk pumped it up to 12,000 from the button. The hijack called and the two saw a flop of {q-Spades}{5-Spades}{k-Diamonds},

The hijack checked to Ozturk and then called his continuation-bet of 25,000, bringing the turn {5-Hearts} where he checked again. Ozturk shoved all in and the player went into the tank for a bit before making the call.

Hijack: {a-}{q-}
Umut Ozturk: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}

The hijack's queens up had two cards in the deck that would improve him beyond Ozturk's aces up. The river fell {k-Clubs}, which was of no help, and he was eliminated.

After Ozturk finished stacking his chips, his new count was totaled to be about tree fiddy.

"You Were Behind!"

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

John Reading was in the hijack and opened the action with a raise to 10,500. He received a call from Yao Yin, who was in the small blind, putting action onto Gerald Siemienas in the big blind. Siemienas squeezed, putting in a three-bet to 29,500.

"That's a bit more!" said a player at the table after the raise was made. Reading quickly folded. Yin then thought for a few moments and folded {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs} face-up.

"You were behind!" said Siemienas with a grin.

"I know! Show it!" prodded Yin. Siemienas said no more as he raked in the pot.

Play Reaches the Bubble

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

With 233 total entries for Day 1b, the rounded-down figure of 12 percent for a hard stop is 27 players. Despite Day 1a playing a full 15 levels, this figure is still in play to ensure that the tournament does not make it into the money during any Day 1 flight.

Twenty-eight players currently remain, meaning that play will end early if one more player is eliminated before the end of the night.
