Herstein Calls It Off

Level 13 : 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Gary Herstein
Gary Herstein

Ken Komberec was in the small blind and went all in after action folded around to him. Gary Herstein was in the big blind with slightly less chips.

"Did you look?" asked Herstein.

"I did," affirmed Komberec.

Herstein looked back at his cards and then exclaimed that he had a hand that is probably supposed to lose. He then focused on what Komberec had, assuming his hand was completely random. The thought process circled back to his decision and he threw in his chips to call all in.

Ken Komberec: {q-Spades}{5-Spades}
Gary Herstein: {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}

Komberec confirmed that his hand was "supposed" to lose more times than not, but that was not likely to be reality. Herstein seemed genuinely shocked, asking how he could possibly be behind with nine high.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}.

"How do you like that flop?" asked Komberec, seeing Herstein pick up eight more outs in addition to his two live cards. Herstein displayed his satisfaction.

The turn fell {6-Diamonds} to fill up Herstein's straight, scoring the double along the way as the river {6-Spades} came to complete the runout, leaving Komberec short as Herstein found a double.
