"Scratch" Takes a Nasty Beat

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Thao Thiem
Thao Thiem

Thao "Scratch" Thiem opened to 12,000 and saw George Shabatura push all in from his left for 35,000. James Livingston on the button shoved his stack forward as well, what looked to be 113,000.

"I guess I'm all in too," Scratch said, opening {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. Livingston sighed and flipped {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}, and Shabatura responded by flinging his cards into the muck.

The floor was called, and the players said they knew which two cards were Shabatura's. Shabatura said he had two eights, and the tournament director peeked down at the cards in question and turned over {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}, as mucking isn't allowed in an all-in situation.

The board ran out {7-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}, giving Livingston an unlikely flush to take most of Thiem's stack and bust Shabatura.

Players are on break for 10 minutes.

Wittman Eliminates Yeh

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Anthony Yeh pushed all in for 63,000 in middle position, and one by one, the players behind him folded. That is, until action hit Robert Wittman in the big blind, who snap-called and tabled two kings. Yeh had {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, and Wittman flopped a hammerlock as {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{a-Spades} hit the board to give him a boat.

"Well that flop works, Bob," a player commented.

Reichard Tosses Kings

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante

Anselmo Villarreal opened to 10,500 in middle position and got a call from button Mario Hudson. Josh Reichard made it 35,000 to go in the blinds, and Villarreal mucked but Hudson wanted to see the {a-Hearts}{2-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop. Reichard continuation-bet 30,000, and Hudson called quickly. The {4-Clubs} prompted Reichard to check after tanking a bit, and Hudson bet 30,000. Reichard thought a minute or so then spun {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} into the muck.

Hudson claimed he had kings as well.

Wazwaz Eliminates Rogowski

Level 16 : 2,000/4,000, 500 ante
Andy Rogowski
Andy Rogowski

Rob Wazwaz checked from the big blind on a {q-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop, and Andy Rogowski bet 10,000 from early position. Wazwaz raised to 40,000, and Rogowski snap-shoved. Wazwaz asked for a count, and the total was 135,000. He slid in a call.

Wazwaz: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Rogowski: {k-Spades}{q-Spades}

"Wow," Rogowski said softly. He found some minor hope of a chop on the {10-Clubs} turn but an {8-Spades} river ended him. "Nice hand."

"I thought he might have kings," Wazwaz said after dragging the pot. "It was a fast shove."
