Ross Gets Called on River, Is Good

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
"East Coast" Mike Ross
"East Coast" Mike Ross

Scott Hammett raised from early position to 7,500 and four players called, including Day 1a chip leader Mike Ross from the big blind.

"Are we heads up dealer?" Ross said jokingly.

"Four players," the dealer said as he laid down the flop of {3-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades}.

All four players checked. The turn was the {8-Clubs} and Ross led out for 12,000. Hammett was the lone caller, so the two players were now heads up to the river. The river was the {2-Spades} and Ross bet again, this time 18,000. Hammett called and Ross showed {k-Clubs}{j-Clubs} for top pair and won the pot.

Welcome Day 2 of the MSPT Michigan Poker State Championship. There are 110 players who will battle today to determine who will be the next MSPT Champ.

Steve Williams leads the field with 400,500 chips about 90,000 ahead of the next highest player, Mike Ross (311,500).

Mike Deis and Patrick Steele (134,500), both former MSPT Players of the Year are in the Day 2 field and starting with the same exact stack. While Nick Pupillo (174,000) and Mark Hodge (26,000) would take the lead in the 2015 MSPT Player of the Year rankings with a 27th place or better finish.

By the end of tonight, one of these players will be the MSPT Michigan State Poker Champion. The MSPT doesn’t allow deals, so the winner will have to beat the 109 other players to earn the title. Former MSPT winner Ryan Dykhouse (38,500) will be looking for his second MSPT win. Also two MSPT Pros, Nick Pupillo and Jason Zarlenga (14,500) are in the Day 2 field.

Stay tuned throughout the day for all the news and updates from the felt and see who will be the next MSPT Champ!
