Defending MSPT POY Sent to the Rail in Bad Beat

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Pat Steele
Pat Steele

Tuan Nguyen opened under the gun for 31,000 and action folded to reigning MSPT Player of the Year champ Pat Steele in the big blind. He told us he looked down at just the {A-Clubs} and moved all in for 97,000. Nguyen thought long and hard before calling with {8-}{8-}, and Steele looked at the other cards — the {A-Spades}!

Steele woke up with the goods, but it didn't amount to much as an eight on the flop gave Nguyen a set. The fourth eight appeared on the river to rub salt in the wound, and then Steele took his leave in 22nd place for $2,961.

Ashur Odishoo followed him out the door in 21st place a short time later, which means the final 20 players are now combining down to the final two table.

Back to the PLO Tables for Roth

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Local pot-limit Omaha player Christoper Roth was just eliminated from the tournament. He shoved all in dark for his last 52,000 after action folded to him on the button, and Steve Anderson defended from the big blind.

Roth: {j-Hearts}{5-Spades}
Anderson: {q-}{8-}

Roth was behind, but he was drawing to two live cards. The {8-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} flop was gin for Anderson as he flopped a full house, and that left Roth drawing dead. The {2-Hearts} was run out on the turn followed by the {3-Diamonds} river to officially send Roth out the door — or rather to a juicy PLO cash game running next door — in 24th place.

MSPT Champ Sent to the Rail

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Ken Baime
Ken Baime

Just before the last break, Sunny Ali opened for 30,000 only to have MSPT Majestic Star champ Ken Baime three-bet all in for 52,000 from the small blind. Ali didn't seem excited about it, but it wasn't much more for him to call.

Baime: {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Ali: {q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}

Baime got it in good, and he was looking good on the {3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} flop. That is when disaster struck as the dealer burned and turned the {2-Hearts} to give Ali two pair. The {6-Hearts} river failed to help Baime, and he was dispatched in 26th place.

Solovjev Drowned on the River

Level 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Alex Solovjev
Alex Solovjev

Action folded to Alex Solovjev on the button and he opened for 30,000. The small blind folded, and then Mike Deis, who will take over the MSPT Season 5 Player of the Year lead thanks to his deep run, moved all in from the big blind. Solovjev had the smaller stack and thought for about 30 seconds before calling off for around 120,000 total.

Solovjev: {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}
Deis: {k-Clubs}{10-Clubs}

Solovjev got it in good, and it looked as if he would double as both the {8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{5-Spades} flop and {8-Clubs} turn failed to help Deis. All Solovjev had to do was dodge a king and ten on the river, but that proved easier said than done as the {10-Diamonds} spiked to give Deis the win. Solovjev was left shaking his head and to settle for 29th place.
