Slow Goings

Level 17 : 8,000/16,000, 1,000 ante

Level 17 is proving to be a slow one, as players are playing it relatively close to the vest despite average stacks of under 20 big blinds.

Zimcosky Holds to Eliminate Smith

Level 17 : 8,000/16,000, 1,000 ante
Jason Smith lost a race for the remainder of his chips.
Jason Smith lost a race for the remainder of his chips.

Jason Smith, who was apparently down to 1.3 big blinds a short time ago, just met his end when he jammed about 115,000 under the gun and was called by Brian Zimcosky.

Zimcosky: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Smith: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

Smith flopped additional outs when the {k-Spades}{10-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} hit the board, but two bricks ended his tournament: {8-Spades} and {6-Clubs}.

"Good game," he said, shaking Zimcosky's hand. "Good luck."

Kou Vang dodged a three-outer.

Kou Vang just doubled up with {a-Hearts}{j-Spades} against an opponent who held {a-}{5-}, though we didn't see the action.

Zimcosky Doesn't Pay Santo Off

Level 16 : 6,000/12,000, 1,000 ante

After Brian Zimcosky opened for 22,000 in middle position, he got just one caller: Joe Santo in the small blind. On the {9-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop, Zimcosky decided to check it back, and a {3-Diamonds} hit the turn. Santo bet out 44,000, and Zimcosky made the call. A {k-Hearts} completed the board, and Santo shoved all in for 255,000 or so, well over the pot. Zimcosky thought briefly before folding, and Santo then stood up and slapped {3-Spades}{3-Clubs} on the table for quads.

Dietz Takes Most of Kirby's Stack

Level 16 : 6,000/12,000, 1,000 ante
Matt Kirby lost a key flip.
Matt Kirby lost a key flip.

Matt Kirby opened for 22,000, and George Dietz made it 57,000 to go from his immediate left. Action folded back to Kirby, who moved all in. Dietz thought very briefly before pushing his roughly 160,000 more into the middle.

Kirby: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Dietz: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Kirby had a slight lead in the race, but Dietz took command on the {4-Spades}{a-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} flop. Kirby found no help on the {j-Spades} or {k-Hearts} turn and river, and he's down to 15 big blinds. Dietz, who identified himself as a member of Team BCP, has a very healthy stack now.
