Hastings, Chilton, and Yoder Lead Day 1A of The RGPS Tunica Main Event

Level 14 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Michael Chilton
Michael Chilton

The first flight of The RGPS $600 Tunica Main Event with a $200,000 guarantee has come to its conclusion. A total of 177 entrants occupied the poker room down here at Horseshoe Casino Tunica, which saw 22 survivors put chips into their bags to advance to the second day of play.

Leading the way is Jeremiah Hastings, who ended the day with 588,000. Securing his second-ever Hendon Mob cash, Hastings saw himself rocket up the chip counts with a massive pot with ace-king against pocket sevens to put him into the chip lead, and he never looked back after that. Hastings looks to make his first cash in an RGPS Main Event a good one with this enormous stack.

Sitting second on the leaderboard is no stranger to RGPS Main Events as Michael Chilton has 471,000 in chips. Last season, Chilton made it to an impressive two RGPS main event final tables at this casino and Hollywood Casino in St. Louis. Finishing in fourth place last time the tour came to Tunica, he looks to better that score to carve his name even deeper into RGPS history.

Darrin Yoder rounds out the podium with 440,000 as the RGPS regular looks to secure his first RGPS ring. They will join the likes of other talented Tunica players like Cody Stanford (303,000), William Reed (260,000), John Holley (218,000), Walker Miskelly (214,000), and Kevin Grinder (169,000).

The NAPT Points race has now taken a backseat to the main event. Still, at the moment it is two-time RGPS ring winner Michael Johns who sits in first place with 228 points on the leaderboard, with Preston McEwen in second place with 195, and Joshua Turner in third with 177. This tournament has the potential to be worth more than any of the other tournaments this week, and these players will be looking to acquire more points as the race concludes on Sunday.

Play ended with 5:45 left in Level 14 with blinds at 3,000/6,000 with a 6,000 big blind ante. Players on Sunday, September 8th will return on this level, barring another flight ending earlier than this. Those who did not bag today will have ample opportunity in the following two flights to bag on Saturday, September 7.
