Alvarez Stays Alive

Level 2 : 100/200, 200 ante

The player in the under-the-gun position raised to 500 and was called by the player in the middle position. The player in the hijack three-bet to 2,600 and Allen Alvarez called for this last 1,700 on the button. Action folded back to the original raiser who made the 2,600 call and so did the player in the middle position.

The flop came {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}{j-Diamonds}, it was checked to the hijack who continued with a bet of 7,000 for the other two players to fold so the cards could go on their backs.

Allen Alvarez: {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Hijack: {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}

Alvarez had flopped a pair of queens and an open-ended straight draw but his opponent had the overpair with the aces.

The turn brought them the {k-Spades} which didn't help but the {q-Clubs} on the river did as Alvarez improved to a full house to stay alive and quadruple up.
