WCOOP League Standings

After "FAL1st" notched up their 105th WCOOP cash of the year last night — second behind only Blaz "Scarmak3r" Zerjav — Team peace&loove extended their WCOOP League lead to 1,035 points and is surely uncatchable at this point.

The victory isn't secure yet, but it would take something monumental for Huber's team to be caught — perhaps another title for Talbot on Saturday night might be the catalyst for the comeback of all comebacks.

Meanwhile, second place isn't completely secure for Team tonkaaaa as Team easywithaces cut the gap there to just 205 points.

  • Team peace&loove - 6485 points (+260)
  • Team tonkaaaa - 5450 points (+190)
  • Team easywithaces - 5245 points (+220)
  • Team L. Veldhuis - 4385 points (+120)
  • Team Aakkari - 3740 points (+60)
  • Team Spraggy - 3300 points (+105)

Astedt Helps Himself to $189K; Denies Leonard an 11th Career Win

Niklas Astedt
Niklas Astedt

If you are going to become a ten-time WCOOP champion, you may as well do it in style, which is precisely what Niklas "Lena900" Astedt did. Astedt came out on top in WCOOP 97-H: $10,300 NLHE PKO Thursday Thrill High Roller and walked away with his tenth career WCOOP titles and a $188,988 top prize.

Only seven of the 65 entrants won a slice of the regular prize pool, although many more received bounties payouts before they busted.

Team PokerStars ambassador Alejandro "PapoAR" Lococo was the first in-the-money casualty, falling in seventh; the Argentinian didn't receive any bounties, which is surprising considering he went so deep.

Ukraine's Roman "RomeOpro" Romanovsky fell in sixth before Alisson "heyalisson" Piekazewicz busted in fifth. Alexandros "Pwndidi" Theologis' latest deep run ended in a fourth-place exit, with the tournament progressing to heads-up after the demise of "Natrium111" of Belarus.

Astedt found himself heads-up against Patrick "pads1161" Leonard, who recently became a ten-time WCOOP champion. Both players secured $86,879 from the regular prize pool, leaving six figures worth of bounty payments to play for. As he often does when he reaches the one-on-one stage of a major tournament, Astedt got the job done and defeated his final foe. With the $102,109 worth of bounties added to his regular prize, Astedt scooped $188,988, leaving Leonard to lick his wounds and receive $130,238.

tonkaaaa Wins His Fifth WCOOP Title

Parker Talbot
Parker Talbot

Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot won his fifth career WCOOP, but it won't help close the gap in the inaugural WCOOP League. Talbot triumphed in the $1,050 World Championship of Badugi, a tournament that saw 45 players go to battle. Unfortunately, the compact field meant this event was not eligible for WCOOP League leaderboard points.

Although Niklas "Lena900" Astedt's 10th WCOOP win earned a shedload of points for Team tonkaaaa, WCOOP Boot Camp pick "king153246" won two titles in the space of a few hours, pushing Sebastian Huber's Team peace&loove even further ahead of the chasing pack.

  • Team peace&loove – 7,020 points (+535)
  • Team tonkaaaa – 5,930 points (+480)
  • Team easywithaces – 5,560 points (+315)
  • Team L. Veldhuis – 4,805 points (+420)
  • Team Aakkari – 4,015 points (+275)
  • Team Spraggy – 3,550 points (+250)

Team peace&loove Has One Hand on the WCOOP League Title

Sebastian Huber
Sebastian Huber

It's difficult to see the WCOOP League title ending up anywhere other than Team peace&loove's possession as the 2024 WCOOP rapidly nears its conclusion. Whenever Team tonkaaaa accumulated a healthy points total, the league leaders always seem to go one better.

Team tonkaaaa won't give up the fight for first place until it is mathematically impossible to catch Sebastian Huber's team. However, it's more likely they will find themselves battling for second place, with Team easywithaces breathing down their necks, only 515 points behind.

  • Team peace&loove – 7,330 points (+310)
  • Team tonkaaaa – 6,190 points (+260)
  • Team easywithaces – 5,675 points (+125)
  • Team L. Veldhuis – 4,810 points (+5)
  • Team Aakkari – 4,285 points (+270)
  • Team Spraggy – 3,890 points (+340)
