Day 1 Completed
Event #49: $1,000 PKO High Roller Championship at the 2023 Pennsylvania Championship of Online Poker (PACOOP) attracted 139 entries to beat the guarantee of $100,000 and generate a total prize pool of $132,050.
After only 6 hours of play, "Vertimax" accumulated all of the chips in play to score the $11,664 top prize to go along with $15,484 in bounties. "Huggers23" could not overcome a heads-up deficit to finish the tournament in second place.
Place | Player | Country | Prize |
---|---|---|---|
1 | "Vertimax" | United States | $11,664 + $15,484 |
2 | "Huggers23" | United States | $11,664 + $5,984 |
3 | "StrikeNaturally" | United States | $7,922 + $5,750 |
4 | "RuffBluff111" | United States | $6,154 + $4,813 |
5 | "BullseyeMD" | United States | $4,780 + $1,844 |
6 | "22EPL" | United States | $3,713 + $1,781 |
7 | "frozenn523" | United States | $2,884 + $750 |
8 | "CallYourMommy" | United States | $2,240 + $2,344 |
9 | "skinnnypanda" | United States | $1,846 + $1,563 |
The top 17 finishers each received a portion of the regular prize pool and it was "redactedcartel" who was the unfortunate individual to fall just short of that mark after their big slick could not hold up in a blind-on-blind encounter. The remaining players were all guaranteed at least $1,033 to go along with any bounties they won.
The final table of nine was set not long after when "Jvic2721" could not find a fold against "BullseyeMD".
Final Table Action
"skinnnypanda" was the short stack coming into the final table and its first casualty. A couple of hands later, "CallYourMommy" fell in 8th place after suffering a domination rotation.
After a short lull in the pace of eliminations, "StrikeNaturally" picked up pocket jacks to best the sixes of "frozenn523" and brought the tournament down to six players.
"22EPL" looked set to score a crucial double-up against "Huggers23" after picking up a dominating ace-queen, but it was not to be as their opponent flopped trips to send the at-risk player to the rail.
Play slowed for a while until the hand of the tournament proved to be the end of "BullseyeMD". They were felled in a four-way all-in encounter after running their cowboys right into the rockets of "Huggers23", who did not even win the hand when the extreme short stack "RuffBluff111" managed to make a flush to secure the pay jump.
Though they were able to find the ladder, "RuffBluff111" could not mount a further comeback, instead falling in 4th place to "StrikeNaturally". Despite getting the elimination, "StrikeNaturally" was the shortest of the three remaining players and ended up finishing in third place to set the stage for a heads-up showdown between "Huggers23" and "Vertimax".
The latter entered play with a nearly 2:1 chip advantaged and never looked back, securing the win with pocket aces to bring the tournament to a close.

Blinds: 25,000/50,000
"Vertimax" opened to 100,000 on the button only to see "Huggers23" three-bet to 312,000 in the big blind. That prompted "Vertimax" to come back with a four-bet to 750,000 which their opponent called.
Action checked to "Vertimax" on the 7♠A♠K♦ flop and they continued for 400,000. "Huggers23" check-raised all in for 1,290,049 and was snapped off.
"Huggers23": K♣J♣
"Vertimax": A♥A♣
"Vertimax" had flopped the nuts to put themselves in firm control, needing to fade running straight cards to secure the pot and victory. The Q♠ turn brought a scare but the river bricked out 5♥ to confirm the 1st place finish for "Vertimax". "Huggers23", meanwhile, was forced to settle for a consolation prize of $11,664 plus bounties.
Stay tuned for a tournament recap to follow.

"RuffBluff111" called all in for 9,835 from under the gun before "StrikeNaturally" re-jammed for 1,794,502 in the cutoff. Amazingly, "Huggers23" called off for their stack of 1,660,973 on the button and as if that was not enough action, "BullseyeMD" also committed their chips in the big blind to set the stage for a massive pot.

"BullseyeMD" had run into a horrific cooler but could still find a payjump if "RuffBluff111" did not finish on top. The Q♦7♥J♠ flop kept the aces best but the A♠ turn did give "RuffBluff111" a flush draw while also handing "BullseyeMD" some hope in the form of a gutshot. The 3♠ river brought in the flush for "RuffBluff111" to give them a payjump at the expense of "BullseyeMD".

Readers might remember hearing about the race car tearing through the Wynn Las Vegas last November. It appears that was part of the production for Red Bull's epic race through Las Vegas.
