Event #55: $300 NLHE [Main Event], $200K Gtd

Day 2 Completed

"smftt" Wins MICOOP $200K GTD Main Event for $56,398.93

It was a speedy affair to crown a champion on the final day of MICOOP $300 NLHE $200K GTD Main Event as barely four hours passed to whittle down the 43 Day 2 players to a winner.

After the dust settled, it was Day 1 chip leader "smftt" who came out on top to win the inaugural PokerStars Michigan Championship of Online Poker (MICOOP) Main Event for $56,398.93 after outlasting a field of 1,284 entries over two days of poker. The tournament put the cherry on top of the 60-event series, which catered to 28,830 combined entrants and awarded $2,208,002 in prize money, well ahead of the $1.4 million in guaranteed prize pools.

Forty-three hopefuls entered play on Monday night and picked up where they left off on Sunday's Day 1. "smftt" started the day as the chip leader and stayed atop the leaderboard after nearly half the field was sent out with 26 remaining just three levels into the final day.

An hour later, the field had nearly halved again as 13 remained. By that time, "Ryan Haury" held the chip lead with "smftt" sitting in the middle of the pack. The rapid-fire pace of eliminations continued with "smftt" eliminating "PintiMellon" in 10th place setting the stage for the final table.

Final Table Action

The final table lineup saw runner-up "zscoro" sit atop the chip counts with eventual champ "smftt" sitting second in chips. "sexycaitlyn", who had won two MICOOP titles earlier in the series, sat at the bottom of the counts so it was no surprise to see them bounce in ninth place after they were set up by "cbauer6789".

"Ryan Haury" sat in the middle of the pack but after a whiffed tussle against "smftt's" pocket aces, they were tossed out in eighth place. The very next level saw two more virtual bodies drop after "PuntnStacks" failed to complete their open-ended straight against "nldoublej" and "GigglyGrizzlies" lost a flip against the eventual champ.

Five-handed play quickly dwindled down to heads-up action after "zscoro" picked-up made hands against "nldoublej", "LayThePipeDream", and "cbauer6789", taking the chip lead into the final battle. The 56,398.93 top prize was on the line and "smftt" walked to the finish line with ease, winning pot-after-pot until they delivered the final blow to "zscoro" and claimed the 2021 inaugural MICOOP Main Event Champion title.

"zscoro": {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
"LayThePipeDream": {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

"zscoro" laid a trap and "LayThePipeDream" woke up with big slick at the wrong time and the {9-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} runout eliminated them in fourth place for $20,427.99.

"GigglyGrizzlies" Eliminated in 6th Place ($10,380.16)

In Level 38 with blinds at 300,000/600,000/75,000, "smftt" opened for 1,260,000 from under the gun and then called the 6,073,162 three-bet jam "GigglyGrizzlies" made from the cutoff.

"smftt": {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts}
"GigglyGrizzlies": {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

"GigglyGrizzlies" was ahead with their small pocket pair but had a sweat after the {6-Spades}{7-Clubs}{6-Hearts} flop came with a pair of sixes.

The {3-Clubs} turn was safe for "GigglyGrizzlies" but the {a-Diamonds} river paired "smftt" and ended their Main Event in sixth place for $10,380.16.

"PuntnStacks" Eliminated in 7th Place ($7,399.31)

In Level 38 with blinds at 300,000/600,000/75,000, action folded to "PuntnStacks" who raised all in for 8,935,272 from the small blind and "nldoublej" snap-called from the big blind.

"nldoublej": {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
"PuntnStacks": {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

"PuntnStacks" was behind holding live cards and added more outs after the {4-Hearts}{8-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop gave them an open-ended straight draw.

The {q-Spades} turn was bad for "PuntnStacks" as it took away some of their outs and left them drawing to either a six or jack to stay alive.

Unfortunately for them, the {q-Hearts} completed the board and ended their tournament.

"Ryan Haury" led out for 940,500 and then called the 2,650,000 raise from "smftt" bringing the {k-Spades} turn.

A series of raises saw "Ryan Haury" get their remaining chips in the middle and was called by "smftt".

"smftt": {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}
"Ryan Haury": {k-Hearts}{4-Hearts}

"Ryan Haury" was ahead after turning two-pair but the {5-Hearts} paired the board on the river and ended their tournament.
