Zang Wins From Juanda

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Shunu Zang raised it up to 6,500 from under-the-gun and John Juanda chose to defend from the big blind so the action went heads-up to a flop of {6-Spades}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs}.

Juanda checked it over to Zang who tanked for nearly the full 30-seconds before checking it back and the dealer peeled off the {10-Diamonds} river.

Given the chance to seize the initiative Juanda gladly took it and led out for 7,500 and after thinking it over Zang decided he wanted to pay to see the river and made the call.

The {a-Spades} looked like the sort of card Zang may have been looking for and Juanda certainly didn’t like it and checked. Zang fired out a pot-sized bet of 35,000 and Juanda quickly mucked.

Zeigler Falls as Cheng Rises

Level 6 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Play had not long restarted after the break before there was another casualty with Tobias Zeigler falling at the hands of Yat Wai Cheng.

Cheng was the initial raiser and action folded around to Zeigler who moved all-in and was quickly called by Cheng.

Tobias Zeigler: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Yat Wai Cheng: {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Despite pairing his queen on the {q-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{10-Clubs} flop Zeigler could not maintain his lead when the turn and river ran out {6-Diamonds} and {k-Diamonds} respectively and that brings the German’s tournament to a close.

Zang’s Creative Play Pays Off

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We have just lost one more with Shunu Zang the man wielding the executioner’s axe. Pre-flop it was John Juanda who opened the action with a raise to 5,800 from the button.

Sitting in the small blind Shunu Zang re-raised to 17,000 only to see big blind Yu Liang quickly ship the last of his 57,100 stack in.

“Oh!” exclaimed Zang, “I don’t have a very good hand.”

Nevertheless Zang decided the chance to eliminate Liang, who was on his second bullet, was too good to pass up and made the call.

Shunu Zang: {8-Spades}{6-Spades}
Yu Liang: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Poker is all about making the wrong move at the right time and Zang hit gin when the flop fell {7-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{10-Clubs} to giggles from the rest of the table, Liang included.

There were no running straight cards to help Liang when the turn and river ran out {5-Hearts} and {a-Diamonds} respectively and we lose another.

All that excitement brings us to our first break of the day.

Kanit Busts Cheng

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Mustapha Kanit
Mustapha Kanit

There were multiple Cheng’s in the field but now there is one less with the departure of Leo Cheng, who moved his last 19,000 in from middle position.

Sitting on the button Mustapha Kanit re-shoved to isolate and the rest of the table got out of the way.

Leo Cheng: {9-Spades}{10-Diamonds}
Mustapha Kanit: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Cheng was not that far behind and despite making a flush when the board ran out {2-Spades}{6-Spades}{4-Spades} {q-Spades}{8-Diamonds} he could not best Kanit’s nut flush and we lose another and are now down to 31 players.

Cheng Wins From Wang

Level 5 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

We caught the action on the {3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{j-Spades} flop in a heads-up pot between Yang Wang and Yat Wai Cheng, just as Wang led out for 11,500 from the big blind into a pot already well over 25,000.

Cheng shot him a look and threw in the call to bring both players to the {k-Clubs}, which slowed down the action and both players checked.

The {q-Hearts} river saw Wang reach for chips and he fired out a bet of 27,000 to send Cheng into the tank. It was not a long visit though and Cheng made the call after 15 seconds or so.

Wang turned over {5-Spades}{7-Hearts} for a missed gutshot straight draw meaning Cheng’s {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} is enough to win a decent sized pot.
