Jason Koon Wins PokerGO Cup Event #6: $25K NLHE ($324,000)

Jason Koon wins PokerGO Cup Event #6

Jason Koon defeated his final four opponents including Thomas Winters in heads-up play on Monday evening to win the PokerGO Cup Event #6: $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em at the PokerGO Studio at the ARIA Resort & Casino for $324,000.

Koon has managed plenty of success over the years with nearly $32 million in live tournament earnings according to The Hendon Mob. One thing that has eluded the partypoker Ambassador was winning an event at the plush PokerGO Studio, although there were a couple of times Koon came close to getting that monkey off his back earlier this year before Monday evening's victory.

Back in June, Koon took third place in the U.S. Poker Open Event #12: $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em for $336,000 with another podium finish coming this festival when he finished runner-up in the PokerGO Cup Event #2: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em for $122,000.

Final Table Action

John Riordan entered the six-player official final table with a commanding chip lead with 113 big blinds, while eventual champion Koon near the bottom of the back with some room to maneuver with 26 big blinds.

Steve Zolotow was the only player to enter the final table with fewer chips than Koon and was the first player eliminated at the final table in sixth place for $45,000 after he called off nine big blinds with king-queen and whiffed the board against Riordan's ace-ten suited.

Koon then snagged the chip lead while delivered a brutal bad beat with a two-outer against Cary Katz. Katz limped preflop with cowboys from the small blind and Koon checked back from the big blind with king-jack. Katz led out for four big blinds on a jack-high flop. Koon jammed and Katz called off for 14 big blinds and was looking good to double. Fortunes quickly turned after a second jack spiked the turn and Katz was sent packing in fifth place for $72,000 after he was unable to get back into things with a one-outer on the river.

Koon Takes Control for Good

Riordan regained the chip lead before Koon regained control and never looked back after a massive three-way pot that sent Anuj Agarwal to the rail in fourth place for $99,000. Agarwal jammed the button for four big blinds with jack-nine suited. Koon three-bet to about seven big blinds with rockets from the small blind before Riordan four-bet jammed with king-ten suited from the big blind covering the 40 big blind stack of Koon. Koon made the easy call and was in command with nearly three-quarters of the chips in place after his aces held strong.

It didn't take long for the rest of the event to finish from there. First Koon ousted Riordan in third place for $144,000 after queen-nine got there against ace-ten suited.

Koon began heads-up play against Koon with a nearly 10:1 chip advantage and limped preflop during the final hand with nines. Winters jammed for 10 big blinds with king-six suited. Koon called and Winters had to settle for the healthy runner-up prize of $216,000 after the board didn't improve his hand.

Ali Imsirovic
Ali Imsirovic leads the PokerGO Cup Leaderboard after four events

PokerGO Tour Leaderboard captain Ali Imsirovic has also been on top of the PokerGO Cup Leaderboard for three straight days after winning both Event #2 and Event #4.

Imsirovic is in an amazing spot to pad his lead and perhaps clinch the inaugural PokerGO title as he leads the final six players in the PokerGO Cup Event #7: $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em. There is still some hope for two others in the top five to take the captain's seat on the leaderboard with Event #1 champion Alex Foxen and David Coleman still alive in Event #7.

Meanwhile, Koon's victory in Event #6 catapulted him into second place on the leaderboard with David Coleman sitting just behind in third place.
