Jason Koon Eliminated in 5th Place ($132,000)

Level 19 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante
Jason Koon

The action folded to Ali Imsirovic in the cutoff and who raised it up with {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}. Jason Koon looked down at {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs} in the small blind and shoved all in for his last 700,000. Imsirovic quickly called and Koon was at risk.

The flop came {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Imsirovic flopped two pair leaving Koon drawing slim. The {q-Spades} on the turn gave Koon some hope but the {9-Hearts} on the river sent him to the rail in fifth place.

Ben Yu raised to 100,000 from the hijack with {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and Daniel Negreanu just called from the big blind with {5-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, leaving himself with just 10,000. The flop came {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Negreanu stuck the last of his chips in the middle which Yu called.

Negreanu needed some help to stay alive but the {3-Spades} on the turn changed nothing. The river brought the {7-Spades} and Negreanu was eliminated in sixth place again, pocketing nearly $100,000 for his efforts.

Rast Climbs Back

Level 18 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Jason Koon limped in on the button with {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} and Ben Yu called in the small blind with {q-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Brian Rast checked his option holding {9-Spades}{7-Spades} and an action flop of {q-Spades}{6-Spades}{6-Hearts} hit the board.

Yu started with a check and Rast tossed in a bet of 50,000 with his flush draw. Koon just called and Yu called as well. The turn brought the {4-Spades} and the action checked around to the {j-Clubs} on the river.

Yu checked one more time and Rast bet 220,000 with the best hand. Koon called with his trip sixes and Yu let his hand go. Rast tabled his flush and was awarded the pot.

Good Flop, Bad Runout for Yu

Level 18 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Ben Yu opened to 75,000 from under the gun with {9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and Brian Rast just flat-called in the hijack with {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. The flop fell {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}{6-Spades} and Yu led out for another 75,000. Rast floated to see the {a-Spades} land on the turn.

Yu checked this time and Rast checked behind. The river brought the {7-Spades} which stopped any action with four spades on the board and Yu dragged in the pot with trip nines.

Rast Gets After It Early

Level 18 : 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Brian Rast opened to 70,000 on the button with {a-Spades}{3-Diamonds} and Ali Imsirovic defended from the big blind with {q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}. The flop fell {k-Spades}{k-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and Imsirovic checked to Rast who continued for 60,000. Imsirovic check-raised to 165,000 and Rast called.

The turn was the {j-Clubs} and both players slowed down, checking to the {8-Diamonds} on the river. Imsirovic checked again and Rast fired in a bet of 330,000 with just ace-high. Imsirovic quickly tossed his rags to the muck and Rast picked up the first pot of the day.

Schindler and Negreanu at Opposite Spectrums on Final Table of Event #5: $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

They played into the wee hours of the night but when all was said and done, another spectacular final table of six emerged into the spotlight. Daniel Negreanu barely survived elimination and will have his work cut out for him when he returns to his less than seven big blind stack. Leading the way will be none other than high-stakes regular, Jake Schindler after accumulating 2,725,000 chips.

Negreanu played the game of survival throughout most of Day 1, managing to reach his second final table of the Poker Masters thus far. In the second event of the series, Negreanu joined Schindler and Jason Koon on the final table as well but wound up finishing in sixth place. Looking for a different result this time around, Negreanu will have to come up with some magic and double up early to change his fortunes.

Meanwhile, Schindler is in a position he knows all too well, sitting at the top of the leaderboard. Holding one of the bigger stacks throughout most of the day, it felt like just another day at the office for the poker pro with over $21 million in career earnings. Among the six final tablists, Schindler is the one with the highest point total in the race for the Purple Jacket and will be looking to secure the maximum number of points to set himself up for a run at the title.

As mentioned, Koon will also be returning to a second final table with 905,000 chips along with Ben Yu (1,695,000) who made the final table of the Pot-Limit Omaha event. The other two players will be making their first appearance but Brian Rast (1,200,000) and Ali Imsirovic (1,615,000) are no strangers to the high-roller scene.

The action will continue on level 18 with a few minutes remaining in the level. The blinds will be 15,000/30,000 with a 30,000 big blind ante and each level will be 30-minutes in length. The players will return to the PokerGO studio at 12:00 noon and the livestream will begin one hour later. Everyone is guaranteed at least a $99,000 payday but will have their sights set on the first-place prize of $462,000.
