Who Wins the $100,000 Super High Roller at the PCA 2018?

Super High Roller Final Table PCA 2018
Super High Roller Final Table PCA 2018

Some of the biggest names in poker get back to the Atlantis poker room today for the final table of the $100,000 Super High Roller.

Leading the 7 remaining players, who are all in the money after Erik Seidel bubbled late last night, is Argentinain wunderkind Iván "Negrin" Lucá. Right on his heels is Justin "Zeejustin" Bonomo who's been around for well over a decade at the highest stakes of games.

The player in third needs no introduction as he's arguably the world's most famous poker player. PokerStars Team Pro Daniel Negreanu busted as one of the first on Day 1 but bought back in and fared much better on his second bullet. Negreanu brings a stack just shy of 50 big blinds to the table.

Like Bonomo, Isaac Haxton has been around at the highest stakes for an eternity as well. After years of dominating the big cash games online, he's been more and more focused on tournaments. High Roller regulars Sam Greenwood, Bryn Kenney, and PokerGO owner Cary Katz complete the 7-handed final table line-up and have their work cut out for them.

Seat 1: Ivan Luca, 26, Punta Alta, Argentina - 2,760,000

Ivan Luca
Ivan Luca

He was just 22 years old when he came to EPT Deauville in January 2015 to notch finish fourth in the France Poker Series Main Event. He capped the festival off with a fifth place in the €10k High Roller, and one thing became clear; Ivan Luca put his name on the European radar.

There was no doubt the Argentinian was just getting warmed up. Luca soon established himself among the world's elite. With a strong online background, known as "Negriin" online at PokerStars, Luca started crushing one live event after another.

He returned to the EPT €10k High Roller at the very next stop in, leaving Malta with €397,000 for a runner-up finish. Luca could've claimed an even larger prize, but he didn't come to terms on a deal with his heads-up opponent, eventual champion David Peters. If you don't want to close a deal with Peters, you've got to be something.

And Luca was simply well aware of his abilities. It didn't take him long to overtake the first place on the Argentinian all-time money list. Now he's in full command with over $5.3 million in earnings, well ahead of the nearest challengers from his home country.

Luca is arguably the hottest Latin American poker export of the past decade. He regularly rubs elbows with the absolute top class in the highest buy-in events around the world, and he's been doing just fine competing at such level.

Luca's career-best payday came two years ago here in The Bahamas. He topped the single-day $50k Event for $494,080. His résumé boasts 17 six-figure results and he's guaranteed to add another one here from the Super High Roller. The 26-year-old's showcase includes a WSOP bracelet as well as Eureka Poker Tour Main Event title. To claim his Eureka glory, Luca had to defeat his girlfriend Maria Lampropulos heads-up.

Seat 2: Isaac Haxton, 32, New York, United States - 1,095,000

Isaac Haxton
Isaac Haxton

Isaac "Ike" Haxton was born in New York City. He was raised in Syracuse and considering his childhood, it was inevitable that he would eventually become one of the smartest brains in the world of mind-games. Now 32, Haxton started playing chess when he was four years old. Then he took up Magic: The Gathering, which turned to be a gateway to poker for many professionals.

Haxton is a nosebleed cash game legend, who's been showcasing his talent behind the online screen-names "philivey2694" and "luvtheWNBA". Haxton quickly laddered through stakes, and when he built a solid money cushion, he decided to have a shot at the live tournament glory.

His first live tournament cash came 11 years ago here at the PCA, and it was something special. Haxton finished second in the Main Event, pocketing a whopping $861,789. Fast forward to the present, Haxton sits in 22nd place on the all-time money list with $15.4 million in earnings.

Haxton's résumé features three seven-figure prizes and 28 six-figure cashes. But while Haxton has been collecting great prizes left and right, he has never won any super high roller.

Seat 3: Sam Greenwood, 29, Toronto, Canada - 695,000

Sam Greenwood
Sam Greenwood

Sam Greenwood has excellent online credentials. Known as "Str8$$$homey" on PokerStars, Greenwood has reached more than $1 million in profit. And while his graph shows that he's currently going through a downswing period, there is zero doubt about Greenwood's abilities. He's one of the top tournament specialists and a popular coach on a renowned schooling website Run It Once.

Greenwood hails from a poker-playing family. His brothers Luc and Max are also well-known poker professionals, but Sam is perhaps the most talented from the three.

Prolific online, Greenwood has been terrific on the live felt as well. He surpassed $7 million in live cashes by the end of last year, mainly thanks to his fantastic hot run at partypoker Caribbean Poker Party in Punta Cana back in November. Greenwood started strong and finished even stronger. After a third place in the $10k Event and a second place in the $25k Event, the 29-year-old Canadian scooped the Main Event for a cool $1,000,000 payday.

Greenwood twice fell just short of taking home a PokerStars Super High Roller title, finishing second in the EPT13 Barcelona €50k event and EPT12 Prague €50k event. That's just a fraction of his accomplishments. He owns a WSOP bracelet, he won two SCOOP and a WCOOP event, he's been to the EPT Main Event final table. Now he's trying to best his sixth place from the PCA 2015 Super High Roller.

His brother Luc wrapped the PokerStars Championship Bahamas with a victory in the $25k High Roller on the last day of the festival, now the torch is passed to Sam who might put the famous poker on the top again.

Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney

Bryn Kenney has been the most dominant player in the PCA Super High Roller history. Coming to this year's event, Kenney was leading the money list with four cashes and $3,479,740 in earnings. He just secured his fifth notch today, extending his exceptional collection. It's also the fourth consecutive PCA Super High Roller which will feature Kenney's name among the paid positions.

Kenney notched two third-place finishes (in 2011 and 2015) before scooping the title in 2016. His last year's title defence ended in seventh place worth $275,060. That was Kenney's first result in what would eventually become his career-best year on the live felt. He left the PokerStars Championship Bahamas with over $1.75 million in his pocket.

Kenney then continued showcasing his talent, eventually amassing a whopping $8.5 million in 2017. The 31-year-old New Yorker was the world's top live tournament earner of the year, ballooning his total live tournament winnings to $20.4 million. He sits in 12th place on the all-time money list.

Kenney's best score came last April when he captured the PokerStars Championship Monte Carlo €100k Super High Roller, picking up €1,784,000. He has another two seven-figure results to his name as well as 37 six-figure cashes.

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Hardly any player has been as influential as Canadian legend Daniel Negreanu, who has been the driving vocal force of the game over the years. The 43-year-old's spectacular career earned Negreanu a status of a true celebrity, not only in the poker arena but also in the mainstream. Negreanu has built himself a phenomenal image, being widely regarded as the most popular player in the world.

The "Kid Poker" backs it with fantastic and inspiring results at the felt. Negreanu has been guarding the pole position in the all-time money list for quite some time. He's the only player with over $35 million in lifetime live tournament winnings and now he's guaranteed to add another notch to his outstanding résumé.

After two decades of truly phenomenal hall-of-fame poker career, Negreanu is as hungry to succeed as ever. He took some time away from the tables to study and work on improving his game at the end of 2017, and it seems to be paying off immediately. Negreanu certainly can still swim in the high roller waters with the biggest sharks in the game.

Negreanu will collect his third cash from the PCA Super High Roller tomorrow. He was runner-up to Eugene Katchalov in the inaugural edition back in 2011 and added a fifth place one year later.

His live tournament career took off here in The Bahamas all the way back in 2005 at the second ever PokerStars Caribbean Adventure.
