Stefan Schillhabel open-jammed on Jonathan Concepcion from the small blind and Concepcion snap-called putting himself and his last 179,000 at risk.
Schillhabel:
Concepcion:
Much to the delight of the rest of the table, both players woke up with monsters. The most classic of races was underway and an even sicker runout lay ahead. The dealer fanned out a board and all though Schillhabel flopped top two, Concepcion binked a set on the turn and raked in a much needed double up.
Mikita Badziakouski opened on the button and Felipe Ramos defended his big blind. The flop swept out and Ramos check-shoved on Badziakouski after a bet of 17,000. Badziakouski got a count of 187,000 and made the call.
Felipe Ramos:
Mikita Badziakouski:
Badziakouski picked up a flush draw with the on the turn but Ramos faded the on the river to score the double up.
Ari Engel opened to 25,000 from the cutoff and Christopher Kruk called from the big blind. The flop fell and Kruk check-called a bet of 30,000 from Engel.
The turn brought the and Kruk checked again. Engel pushed all in for 175,000 and Kruk went into the tank. After using up two of his time banks, Kruk finally counted out a call and the cards were tabled. Engel showed for just king high and Kruk surprisingly rolled over for bottom pair. The river bricked off with the and Engel's tournament came to an end.
"Wow, calling station," Steffen Sontheimer said to Kruk. "I thought Justin was the calling station."
Jonathan Concepcion was on the button and got all the chips in the middle before the flop against Richard Seymour, who was in the small blind and had the smaller of the two stacks.
Jonathan Concepcion:
Richard Seymour:
Seymour had the preflop advantage and Concepcion needed to improve in order to eliminate him. Concepcion took the lead on the flop, but the turn and river counterfeited Concepcion's flopped pair of tens, so Seymour took the pot with the better kicker to double up.
As Daniel Negreanu tossed his cards to the muck, he leaned back in his chair, stretched his arms, and gave out a big yawn.
"It's getting late for me," he said with a laugh. Negreanu scouted the two remaining tables and shouted to Richard Seymour sitting at the other table, "Hey Richard, how old are you?"
"38!" he responded. "You?"
"I'm 43. Was just making sure I'm still the senior in this thing." Negreanu continued the talk amongst the members at his table. "I remember when I used to be the young guy at the table. There was only like four or five of us. Nobody else that was 22 years old had any money."
Steffen Sontheimer piped up with a bit of a needle. "What percentage of the Super Seniors field do you know?" The table chuckled together as things continued to be light-hearted with a big $836,350 prize awaiting the winner.
A blind versus blind battle between Justin Bonomo and Daniel Negreanu saw 78,000 in the middle preflop. The flop fanned out and Bonomo check-raised a bet of 20,000 by Negreanu to 90,000 and Negreanu called.
The hit the turn and Bonomo led with a bet of 85,000. Negreanu called and the completed the board. Bonomo fired a bet worth 275,000 and Negreanu folded.
Steffen Sontheimer raised to 30,000 from the button, Jonathan Jaffe three-bet to 120,000 from the big blind, and Sontheimer called.
The flop came and Jaffe bet 80,000. Sontheimer raised to 190,000, leaving himself just over 250,000 behind. Jaffe shoved to put Sontheimer to a decision for the remainder of his stack and he quickly called.
Steffen Sontheimer:
Jonathan Jaffe:
Sontheimer had the lead with his overpair and Jaffe needed help to stack him. The turn changed nothing but the river gave Jaffe trips, so he took the pot to send Sontheimer to the rail.
Jonathan Jaffe raised to 32,000 from under the gun and Daniel Negreanu defended his big blind. The flop came and Negreanu check-called a continuation bet of 27,000 from Jaffe.
The turn brought the and Negreanu led out for 35,000. Jaffe raised to 85,000 and Negreanu stuck around to see the on the river. Negreanu checked again and Jaffe pushed out a bet of 240,000. Negreanu made the call and Jaffe tabled for a rivered flush.
