Shak Strikes First

Viktor Blom raised to 120,000 on the button and Dan Shak called from the big blind, landing a {Q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop to the board.

Shak check-called 130,000 from Blom which brought the {Q-Hearts} on the turn. Both checked quickly and the {2-Hearts} hit the river. Both checked again and Shak tabled {Q-Spades}{4-Hearts} for trips, taking down the pot.

The two gents are back in their chairs, and one of them is sporting some new gear. Viktor Blom has shown up for the duel in a pair of rose-tinted, white-rimmed sunglasses.

"Oh, we're goin' dark glasses now?" Shak noticed. "Okay." With that, he slipped his own pair of shades over his eyes. "Except I can't see with these on," he laughed, sliding them back on top of his head.

Galen Hall Eliminated in 3rd Place ($470,400)

Galen Hall - 3rd place
Galen Hall - 3rd place

Dan Shak folded his button, and that was probably a very good idea. Viktor Blom raised to 150,000 in the small blind, and Galen Hall went ahead and shoved all in for 1.54 million from the big. Snap-call! Cards up.

Showdown
Blom: {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs}
Hall: a big sigh... then {9-Clubs} {9-Spades}

"Those nines do hit though, don't they?" Hall asked rhetorically, hoping to conjure up a set. He could not. The board ran out {5-Clubs} {10-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} {K-Clubs}, and that's that.

It's hard to say enough about Galen Hall's efforts here at the PCA. He won $2.3 million by binking the Main Event last time around, and this time, he was just two places from hoisting the Super High Roller trophy. He'll have to settle for a third-place consolation prize worth nearly a half-million dollars for now, but he'll be taking his seat in the Main again tomorrow with an eye on a repeat.

Shak Plays Back

Dan Shak opened to 125,000, and Viktor Blom reraised to 350,000. Shak had a determined look on his face, and he grabbed his bet back and slid out two tall towers of green chips worth 1 million total. Blom shook his head and frowned, then quietly mucked.
