Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon Claims Second Title This Series After Winning Event #7: $535 Six-Max PKO $25K GTD for $12,618.93

Yong Kwon

Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon put on a clinic Thursday night in Event #7 of the partypoker US Network Online Series, outlasting a field of 81 in the $535 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em 6-Max Progressive Knockout tournament for $12,618.93 in total prizes ($5,165.79 in prizes + $7,453.14 in bounties).

The tournament met its guaranteed prize pool in Level 9 and generated a $40,500 prize pool ($20,250 regular prize pool & $20,250 bounty prize pool) after the 81 total entries became official, meaning, the top eight finishers would get a piece of the pie with 25 players remaining.

A frenzy of eliminations occurred just after registration closed and the field found itself down to just 18. Eight were set to be paid, and hand-for-hand began 40 minutes later when 10 were left.

The bubble lasted 30 minutes itself, popping when eventual champion Kwon's flopped top-pair held to eliminate "FRIELnGood".

A couple of levels later, the final table of six was reached with Lupo, Kwon, and John "Slapshot1085" Forlenza well clear of the remaining field.

One by one, the field was cut in half until three remained. With the chip stacks evenly spread out three-handed, one full level went by before Kwon continued his elimination rampage and flushed out Forlenza on the river.

The heads-up match only lasted a few shorthands before Lupo fell in second place after Kwon turned a full house.

Daniel "centrfielder23" Lupo Eliminated in 2nd Place ($5,161.72 + $1,453.12 in Bounties)

In Level 30 with blinds at 30,000/60,000 and an ante of 7,500, Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon raised all in preflop for 5,117,350 and Daniel "centrfielder23" Lupo called off his 942,650 stack.

Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon: {a-Spades}{3-Clubs}
Daniel "centrfielder23" Lupo: {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}

Lupo was behind holding live cards but things didn't look good after the {3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{a-Clubs} flop gave Kwon two-pair.

The {3-Diamonds} turn made things worse as it left Lupo drawing dead and the meaningless {8-Hearts} river ended his tournament runner-up.

A Look Ahead to the WPT Online Poker Open on partypoker US

WPT Online
WPT Online

Last month, the World Poker Tour (WPT) announced its first U.S.-based online Main Tour event, the $3,500 WPT Online Poker Open Main Event, set for a late December running in New Jersey. That one will also carry a guarantee of $1 million.

The WPT Online Poker Open Main Event will be held Dec. 27-29 on partypoker US Network for players in New Jersey.

The ambitious $1 million guarantee signifies how serious the WPT and partypoker are about making this a premier poker tournament worthy of the WPT name.

“The WPT Online Poker Open brings the most prestigious prize in poker to New Jersey and the partypoker US Network,” said WPT CEO Adam Pliska in a presser. “WPT’s continued pivot toward online will continue with another landmark for regulated online poker in the United States.”

Indeed, the WPT has pivoted into a strong series of online offerings, however, all were offered to the dot-com partypoker player pool, a much larger bunch of customers than the prospective New Jersey pool. Drawing the necessary entries to meet the guarantee will require some effort, and the WPT already announced satellites will be available for as little as $5.

John "Slapshot1085" Forlenza Eliminated in 3rd Place ($3,503.25 + $328.12 in Bounties

In Level 28 (20,000/40,000/5,000), John "Slapshot1085" Forlenza moved all in on a {4-Spades}{q-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{k-Clubs} board and was called by Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon.

Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon: {8-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
John "Slapshot1085" Forlenza: {k-Hearts}{2-Spades}

Forlenza just needed to fade a heart on the river but unfortunately the {j-Hearts} appeared ending his tournament in third place.

Keith "ClarkWesterfeld" Donovan Eliminated in 4th Place ($2,176.87 + $687.50 in Bounties)

In Level 26 (16,000/32,000/4,000), Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon raised from under the gun and then called Keith "ClarkWesterfeld" Donovan's 510,050 three-bet jam from the button.

Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon: {a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}
Keith "ClarkWesterfeld" Donovan: {a-Hearts}{10-Clubs}

Donovan had Kwon dominated until the {8-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{3-Clubs} flop appeared pairing Kwon's eight.

The {5-Hearts} turn was no help to Donovan as only a ten on the river would keep his tournament hopes alive.

Unfortunately for Donovan, the {6-Diamonds} river ended his tournament in fourth place.

Sridhar “sri100k” Sangannagari Eliminated in 5th Place ($1,579.50 + $687.50 in Bounties)

Sridhar Sangannagari

In Level 26 (16,000/32,000/4,000), action folded to Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon who limped in from the small blind and Sridhar “sri100k” Sangannagari checked his option from the big blind.

The {8-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop was checked by both players to the {5-Clubs} turn Kwon led out and then jammed after Sangannagari raised.

Sangannagari called off the rest of his stack and the two players revealed their hands.

Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Sridhar “sri100k” Sangannagari: {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}

Sangannagari pulled ahead on the turn and was looking good to score the double until the {10-Diamonds} paired the board on the river giving Kwon a better two-pair, eliminating Sangannagari in fifth place.

"Wyeth" Eliminated in 6th Place ($1,154.25 + $359.37 in Bounties)

In Level 25 with blinds of 14,000/28,000 and an ante of 3,500, "Wyeth" was all in preflop from the cutoff and Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon called from the button.

"Wyeth": {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}
Yong "IReadYrSoul" Kwon: {9-Hearts}{8-Hearts}

"Wyeth" held the better hand but it was Kwon who connected with the {6-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop.

The {10-Hearts} turn left "Wyeth" drawing to a chop to tie at best but the {5-Clubs} river ended their tournament in sixth place.
