Another partypoker Sunday LIVE is set to go today with three big events as well as Grand Prix Knockout action. In addition to the regular big game action in The Grand, The Weekender Final Day, and The Sunday 500, there are day 1 flights for both the Grand Prix Main Event and Mini Main Event and single-day events #8 and #9 crowning winners today.
The Grand Prix is a two-week knockout series featuring low buy-ins but big guarantees. Today's Grand Prix action includes #08 7-Max Turbo for $215 with $50,000 guaranteed, and #09 Mini 7-Max Turbo for $22 with $20,000 guaranteed.
The big games today have $400,000 guaranteed between them. The Grand is the big one, as always. With $200,000 guaranteed, and a $1,050 entry fee, this real-name game brings out some of the best in the poker world. Last week it was Sweden's Niklas Astedt who took down the big prize of more than $45,000.
There are already 39 players waiting for action in The Grand, qualifiers in one of the Day 1 satellite flights. The innovative format gives players a chance to build a stack for the final day for less than full buy-in. Early phases of the tournament start at $2.20, and while players can buy 1 million chips for the final day for $1,050, they can also bring stacks forward from a Phase 3 game for $109. Currently the chip leader is Canadian Mark Rodrigues with more than 1.9 million, followed by Austrian Leon Sturm.
The Grand plays down to a winner today with 15 minute blind levels, and players have about 3 hours to get into the game, either with the direct buy-in option, or through Phase events running now on partypoker. There is also $100,000 each on offer in The Sunday 500 and The Weekender Final Day, two bounty events which start at 19:05 and 20:05 respectively.
The Sunday 500 is a $530 buy-in with $100,000 guaranteed. Players start the game with 500,000 in chips and play 12 minute levels until the day is finished. Players have a couple hours of late registration to get into the game, and they'll play till all the chips are in one stack.
The Weekender Final Day isn't a game players can register directly to. Players have to finish a Day 1 in the top 15% of the field to make the Final Day, and just getting to the Final Day is enough to earn a payday. Currently 60 players have booked Final Day seats for The Weekender, and the current chip leader is "bumhunt" with almost 1.8 million chips and $162 in bounties already.
