Niklas Astedt Wins The Grand for More than $45,000
Niklas Astedt has won The Grand for $45,062 after almost nine and a half hours of play. He had to get through 230 entries to take down the win, but his biggest test came from Damian Salas.
Salas put on a great effort facing the huge stack of Astedt, but in the end, the deficit was just too much to overcome. Astedt got to heads-up with nearly 200 million chips to around 25 million for Salas, but Salas quickly doubled up.
Salas continued to battle for several minutes, but never managed to get much closer than that first double-up. The final hand was a case of Astedt getting there with the five-six of hearts against fives for Salas. Astedt rivered the dummy end of the straight to nine, and it was all over.
