Gallagher Eliminates O'Shea Set Over Set, Takes Chip Lead
Level 8
: 400/800, 100 ante
Italy's Daniele Carminetti opened from the button to 1,700 before Ireland's Thomas Gallagher three-bet from the small blind to 4,500.
Ireland's Mortimer O'Shea then four-bet jammed all in for 19,000 from the big blind. Carminetti folded before Gallagher snap-called. Gallagher turned over pocket kings and O'Shea needed help to survive with pocket queens.
The table erupted when the flop came to give both players a set. Sixes came on both the turn and the river, and O'Shea was eliminated.
Gallagher, who had won a few hands before this, catapulted into the Day 1a chip lead with 140,000 in chips.
A few hands later, Carminetti also was eliminated from today's Day 1a field.
