The Maryland State Poker Championship is underway at Live! Casino and Hotel Maryland, with Day 1b of the $600 Kickoff Event taking place at 11:15 a.m. local time. The PokerStars sponsored tournament will feature a $300,000 guaranteed prize pool, with six Day 1 starting flights taking place over four days. Players who advance from each flight will combine and return for Day 2 on Sunday, August 4, where a winner will be crowned.
Last year's installment of the event attracted 1,016 competitors and resulted in a three-way chop, with Ryan Donnelly, John Lanese, and Chad Beatty all taking home $54,898.

Players will begin each starting flight with 30,000 in chips and blinds will begin at 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante. Blinds will increase every 30 minutes on Day 1 and every 40 minutes on Day 2. Play for Day 1 flights will conclude once 12.5% of the field remains, and those who bag will be in the money for Day 2.
Late registration and re-entries are permitted through level 8, with 15-minute breaks taking place every four levels. Unlimited re-entries are allowed and players may play additional Day 1 flights in an attempt to increase their chip counts. Should a player choose to play multiple Day 1 flights, only the highest qualifying stack will be permitted to continue to Day 2.

Also up for grabs is a Gold Pass to the NAPT Las Vegas Main Event in November. PokerStars will be awarding the last online qualifier standing the Gold Pass package, which includes travel, accommodation, and the $5,300 tournament buy-in.

The flop came 3♣4♦K♦ and when the players checked to Shell, he bet 600. The big blind called, and the player in early position folded.
After the 10♦ turn, the big blind check-called a bet of 1,000 from Shell.
The river was the 3♠ and after the big blind checked, Shell fired out another bet for 3,100 this time. After giving it some thought, the big blind folded to give the pot to Shell.

Action picked up on the turn in a hand between the player in the small blind and Glen Minnick in the big blind.
With the board reading 8♣Q♣4♦7♣, the small blind led out with a bet of 1,000 and Minnick raised to 2,000. The small blind called and the river brought the A♦.
The small blind check-called a bet of 2,000 and Minnick tabled the winner with 10♣6♣ for a flush.

A player limped in from the cutoff, before the button raised to 600. Joan Bousman in the small blind, the big blind, and the cutoff all made the call.
The flop came A♣9♣6♥ and after action checked to the player on the button, he bet 2,100. Both Bousman in the small blind, and the big blind called, while the cutoff folded.
All three players checked to the river after the 2♠ on the turn.
The river was the 7♠ and Bousman bet out 2,000. The big blind quickly folded, and after debating his decision the player on the button folded as well to give the pot to Bousman.

With about 4,500 in the middle and the board reading 7♦9♦6♦8♠10♠, the big blind checked and Angelov fired out a bet of 6,000.
The big blind flicked in the call and turned over J♦J♣ for a straight. Angelov tabled A♦K♦ for a flopped flush, and the pot was pushed his way.

Action folded to a player in the cutoff who raised to 400. Daniel Barry on the button called, as did both the small blind and big blind.
The flop came 6♥8♦A♥ and action checked to Barry on the button, who bet out 700. Both the blinds folded, and the player in the cutoff called.
The cutoff then check-called a bet of 1,300 from Barry after the A♦ turn.
After the 8♣ on the river the cutoff checked, and Barry fired out a bet of 4,000. The cutoff quickly folded to give the pot to Barry.
