The Maryland State Poker Championship at Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland is underway, with the PokerStars-sponsored event boasting an 18-event schedule with $1 million guaranteed across the festival.
Not only is the event full of exciting poker action, but there are three opportunities for players to win their way to the North American Poker Tour stop in Las Vegas in November. Three different events will award Gold Pass packages to the event that includes travel, accommodation and buy-in to the NAPT Las Vegas Main Event.
Action folded to Joan Bousman in the hijack, and limped in, as did a player on the button. When it folded to the big blind Howard Mann, he raised all in for 7,000. Bousman called, and the button folded, leaving the two players heads up, with Mann at risk.
Howard Mann: A♠Q♥
Joan Bousman: 4♦3♦
Mann was ahead with his ace high, and when the board ran out 7♦8♦8♥8♠2♥ his ace high was still best and secured the double up.

Action was caught on the flop in a hand between Glen Minnick on the button and Glen Holley in the big blind.
With 3,400 in the pot and the board reading 9♠8♠10♠, Holley check-raised all in over Minnick's bet of 2,400, putting himself at risk.
After some consideration, Minnick eventually made the call.
Glen Holley: 7♠4♥
Glen Minnick: Q♣J♥
The board ran out A♣, 2♥ and Minnick's flopped straight held to eliminate Holley.

Action went three-ways to a flop of J♥9♥2♦ in a hand between Bruce Whitcomb in the cutoff, the player in the hijack, and Paul Min in late position.
Min bet 2,500, the hijack folded, and Whitcomb made the call. The K♥ turn and 10♠ river both went check-check and Min tabled the winner with J♣10♦ for two pair, jacks and tens, besting the pocket aces of Whitcomb.

A player from early position raised to 1,000, before a player in the hijack three-bet all in for 6,500. The cutoff and the big blind Philip Shirey called, and the player in early position folded, leaving three players in the pot with one all in.
The flop came K♠2♠J♣ and both players checked.
After the K♦ on the turn, Shirey bet out 6,000, which got the player in the cutoff to fold, leaving him heads up with the player all in.
Hijack: 9♥9♣
Philip Shirey: A♣J♦
Shirey had the best hand with his pair of jacks and kings. After the river was the 8♠ his jacks and kings were still best, and he eliminated the player from the tournament.
