Day 1 Highlights

Day 1 started with 21 players in their seats, among them Stamm, Samuel Laskowitz, Michael Wang, and PokerStars ambassador Maria Konnikova. Konnikova held strong all day and she will return with a steady 84,500 on Saturday.

Brendan Ferguson, who qualified for the tournament with a Vegas Poker Pass, was the most active player in the room throughout the opening levels — and it all started with a jam on the first hand. Ferguson shoved the river with the pot sitting at around 2,000, but his opponent wanted nothing to do with it. Despite all of the early activity that temporarily doubled his chip stack, Ferguson failed to turn his free shot into big bucks.

Laskowitz was among the leaders with over 100,000 in Level 4 and he was trailed by early entrants Dylan Linde, Richard Green, Myles Mullaly, Nadya Magnus, and Maureen Bloechlinger, another early qualifier who had a strong day and found some chips later in the evening to bag 92,500 for Day 2.

Hu and Lonis jumped up the leaderboard prior to the dinner break and held down the top spots throughout the remainder of the evening. They were joined by the hard-charging Shorr, who moved above 200,000 in the last level of the evening, and Juan Garcia Reverte. Stamm, Michael Jozoff, and Alexander Jesionek also made late moves that put them within striking distance of the leader.

Other players returning for Day 2 include Lewis Spencer, Princess Love, Ethan "Rampage" Yau, and Masato Yokosawa.

Players will return at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday for Day 2. The tournament staff has adjusted the levels from 60 minutes to 40 minutes for Day 2, and the plan is to play down to a final table of six. Those six players will return on Sunday to play to a winner in final table action that will be live-streamed on PokerStars YouTube.

Be sure to keep it with the PokerNews team all weekend long for live updates from the floor of the NAPT Main Event and the $5,300 NAPT High Roller right here at Resorts World Las Vegas.

Cho Sniffs Out the Bluff

Level 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Arden Cho
Arden Cho

It folded all the way to the small blind who limped and Arden Cho checked her option in the big blind.

Some table talk started between the two players as Cho asked her opponent multiple times if he had actually checked his cards and she got little response.

The 5J10 flop landed and action checked through to a 9 turn. The small blind opted to lead this card for 1,000 and Cho quickly called.

The J rolled off on the river and the small blind opted to bet again for a large size of 4,100. Cho tanked for a moment but found a call pretty quickly and was shown the good news.

The small blind tabled 42 for a bluff and Cho proudly tabled 102 for just a second pair that was good enough to drag the pot.

Jozoff and Yokosawa Have a Blind Battle

Level 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Masato Yokosawa
Masato Yokosawa

The action folded all the way to the small blind where Masato Yokosawa limped in for 600 before Michael Jozoff raised to 2,100. Yokosawa called and they were off to a flop heads up.

The 426 flop landed and action checked to Jozoff who continued for 5,000. Yokosawa took a moment and then put in a check-raise to 12,000. Jozoff called and the 4 rolled off on the turn pairing the board.

Yokosawa led for another 10,000 and Jozoff called again on their way to a 5 river. Yokosawa sat in the tank for almost a full time-bank before moving all in. Jozoff took a moment but ultimately sent his cards to the muck and Yokosawa scooped.

Hickey Sets the Trap

Level 2 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Jason Hickey
Jason Hickey

After an open from under the gun, the action folded to Jason Hickey who defended his big blind and they were off to a flop heads up.

The 663 flop landed and action checked in flow to the original raiser, who continued for 700. Hickey only took a moment before putting in the check-raise to 1,900. The under-the-gun player called and the 9 hit the turn.

Hickey continued the story for 3,500 and once again the original raiser called on their way to a 7 river.

Hickey sat in the tank for a moment and then gathered enough chips to put out a large bet of 9,000. The original raiser thought it over for about a minute and then put in the chips.

Hickey tabled KK for a premium that he slow-played preflop and the under-the-gun player mucked.

Early Traction for Konnikova

Level 2 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Maria Konnikova
Maria Konnikova

Maria Konnikova, one of PokerStars' newest ambassadors, has chipped up in the early levels at Table 13. She is accompanied by her "emotional support shark," which doesn't appear to have a name yet.

The table has speculated about the unknown object in the shark's fin. Most believe it is a racing helmet, but that is also unknown at this time.

Mullaly Takes an Early Pot

Level 2 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Myles Mullaly
Myles Mullaly

A player in late position raised to 500 and Myles Mullaly called from the cutoff before Rodriguez Jimenez came along from the big blind.

The flop was 9A3 and the player in late position bet 1,000. Mullaly called and Jimenez raised to 3,400, which sent the late position player into the muck. Mullaly called the raise and the turn was K.

Both players checked the turn to see 7 on the river. Jimenez fired 7,500 and Mullaly used two time banks before he tossed out the chips to call. Mullaly turned over AJ to take the pot with a pair of aces while Jimenez showed 42 and tossed it in the muck.

Moreno Going After Pots Early

Level 1 : Blinds 100/200, 200 ante
Andrew Moreno
Andrew Moreno

The action folded to Andrew Moreno on the button who opened to 500. The small blind folded before Antonio De La Cruz called from the big blind.

The K9J flop landed and action checked to Moreno who continued for 400. De La Cruz called and the 2 rolled off on the turn.

Action checked through to a 9 river and De La Cruz checked one more time before the action was on Moreno. He sat in the tank for a few more moments and then opted to fire again for 1,000. De La Cruz gave it some thought but eventually his cards found the muck.

Moreno scooped and was involved again just a few hands later.

Inaugural NAPT $5,300 High Roller Kicks Off at 12:30 PM PST

NAPT Las Vegas
NAPT Las Vegas

The PokerStars North American Poker Tour Las Vegas has officially made its return to the United States at Resorts World Las Vegas and today kicks off the inaugural $5,300 High Roller Event. The event boasts a healthy $500,000 guarantee, and the action begins at 12:30 p.m. local time.

Multiple events have already kicked off or been completed at this year's NAPT. The main event has been a huge success, and after drawing a massive 1,095-player field, the players are returning this afternoon for the tournament's third day. Jesse Lonis was also fortunate enough to take down the $10,300 Super High Roller event to cement his name in history as the NAPT makes its return. However, players who were not able to make their NAPT main event dreams come true will have another opportunity at some hardware today in the High Roller.

This tournament features a 50,000 starting stack and players will begin at the 100/200/200 blind level. The event begins with 60-minute levels on Day 1, then moves to 40-minute levels on Day 2, and then back to 60-minute levels on Day 3.

There will be a 20-minute break after every two levels and a 60-minute dinner break after Level 6. Day 1 will play a total of ten levels, while Day 2 will play down to a six-person final table that will return on Day 3 for cards-up coverage on the PokerStars Youtube channel.

This is a single reentry tournament and registration remains open until the start of Day 2. Players who find a bag on Day 1 will return for Day 2 on Saturday, November 11th, at 12:30 p.m., followed by Day 3 on Sunday, November 12th, at 12:30 p.m.

The return of the NAPT has already been a massive success. It will be interesting to see how many players come out to attempt a run at one of the pieces of coveted PokerStars hardware, the first-place prize, and the glory.

Tune into PokerNews for all of the updates to see who will make their run at a potential life-changing score!
