That winner was a familiar name in Mark Cortez who added another big score here in Houston to his poker resume with the $10,010 grand prize. Back in late January of this year, Cortez won the Main Event for $81,000.

Cortez entered the final table tied for the chip lead and would hold firm toward the top of the counts for most of the table.

In the heads up battle, Cortez was able to hold off a rally from Jason Lang, who initially erased a big deficit to even up the chip counts. Cortez would be able to pull away again though and finish Lang off on the dramatic final hand.

PokerNews will continue coverage of the Lone Star Poker Series tomorrow at the start of Event #11: $600 PLO Championship at 2 p.m. local time.

Cortez Finishes off Lang in Dramatic Fashion

Jason Lang moved all in from the button and Mark Cortez called after a few moments off thought.

Cortez was slightly ahead holding the {9-Clubs}{4-Clubs} against the {8-Clubs}{2-Clubs} of Lang.

The flop was an exiciting one that sent Lang into the lead as it came {2-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{8-Spades} to give Cortex a pair and Lang two-pair.

The turn was the {a-Spades} but the river was the {9-Diamonds} to give Cortez trips and give him the winning hand and the victory.

Musachio Spikes a Lady to Score Double Knockout

Short stack David Hubbard moved all in from early position. Winston Djonli moved all in as well and Giovanni Musachio callled with the largest of the three stacks.

Hubbard had the advantage holding the {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}, Djonli was in big trouble with the {7-Spades}{7-Clubs}. Musachio had the change to knock out both players but was behind with the {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}.

The flop turned the tables though as it came {q-Hearts}{k-Spades}{k-Clubs} to give Musachio the full boat. The turn was the {3-Spades} and the river was the {2-Hearts} to end the run of both Djonli and Hubbard.

Lang Makes Big River Call

Lang Calls Musachio
Lang Calls Musachio

Level 16 (10,000/20,000/20,000)

The board read {k-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{a-Spades} when action was picked up. Jason Lang had made a river bet of 55,000. Giovanni Musachio raised to 145,000. Both players had fairly healthy stacks nearing the final table.

Lang thought it out for a while before calling after about 20 seconds.

Musachio tunred over the {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} in frustration, showing that he had been counterfeited. Lang tabled the winner with the {q-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} which was the winner with the queen kicker on the double paired board.
