Kiles Leads Final 27 Into Day 3
Welcome back to Day 3 of the 2011 PokerStars.net LAPT Punta del Este Main Event. Just 27 players remain spread across four tables here in Uruguay and leading the way is Cassio Kiles with 1.12 million in chips.
Kiles has greater than a 400,000-chip lead over his next closest competitor Andrey Tsitovich who sits with 712,000. From there, Juan Jose Perez (617,000), Fernando Araujo (407,000) and Nicasio Toranzo (390,000) round out the top five. The goal today though is to make it to the top eight and the official final table in order to return tomorrow to contend for the title.
Everyone remaining has locked up a minimum of $5,180 with another pay jump coming after a few more players hit the rail. One of the players still left standing who will have to do a lot of work early if he's going to go deeper in this event is notable Max Stern. As chronicled yesterday, Stern has just shy of $1.5 million in career tournament earnings and three World Series of Poker gold bracelets. An LAPT title would be a great thing to add to his record for the PokerStars qualifier, but with just 70,000 in chips coming into Day 3, he's got quite the road ahead of him.
Play is set to begin promptly at 12:00 PM local time here in Punta del Este, Uruguay and it's set to be another great day on the felt. However long it takes, the tournament will play until a final table of eight has been reached and then call it quits for the day. PokerNews will be on hand for all of it to provide the live coverage and you should stay glued to your computer screen to follow along. We'll see you back here shortly!
