Bernal Has Better Luck

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Nelson Bernal opened shoved from the hijack for about 34,000 and the action fell to Peter Brooks in the big blind.

He tanked for almost a minute before calling with {a-}{j-}. He was up against the {k-}{q-} of Bernal.

The board ran out {5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} and Bernal doubled up. The loss bring Brooks back under 100,000.

Early Eliminations

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Kyle Cartwright came into the day as the shortest stack and was all in on his first hand. Leonard Scruggs was in the big blind and had a tough decision. Eventually, he called with pocket twos and Cartwright showed {k-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.

Scruggs pocket twos held and Cartwright was the first player eliminated today.

Joey McCaig hit the rail shortly after Cartwright. There are now 41 players remaining.

Time To Crown a New Champ, Day 2 of the HPO St. Louis Regional Main Event Starts Soon

HPO St Louis
HPO St Louis

Today is Day 2 of the HPO St. Louis Regional Main Event. Joshua Turner leads the 43 remaining players with 277,000 chips. Turner is looking for his third tournament win of 2016. He won a side event here at HPO St. Louis for $5,313 and a WSOP Circuit ring event for $71,665. He's playing for a first place prize here of $61,676 and has put himself in a good spot for a run at the HPO St. Louis Main Event Title.

There are plenty of players who will be in Turner's way. Former World Champion and HPO Ambassador Chris Moneymaker is also in the field. He's sitting on 125,000 chips and just missed out on having a massive stack when he got aces cracked against Peter Brooks (131,000) in the final hands of Day 1a.

When the Day 1a field broke down to one table, Brooks had 25,000 chips, but by the end of the day he doubled up two times, once against Moneymaker and once against Jeremy Scharf (77,000). Scharf had kings and Brooks had {5-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and flopped a straight to win that hand.

Lloyd Ney is one of the less known players in the field, with only $7,284 in total tournament winnings, he is poised to make a run starting the day with 149,500. Ney's work on Day 1b has definitely put him in good shape.

It wasn't enough for Lori Lindley to be the only woman remaining in the final 43, as she enters the day fourth in chips with 192,500. Bill Haner (243,500), Cory Bogert (203,500) and Zal Irani (189,000) round out the top five to start the day.

Kyle Cartwright comes into the day with the shortest stack (33,000). He is looking for his first HPO title, but will have to work the short stack and see if he can run it up to make a run at the title.

When play starts, the field will only be 16 players away from the money and a min cash of $2,827.

Stay tuned throughout the day to pokernews.com for Day 2 updates as the 43 remaining players vie for the HPO St. Louis Main Event prize and the Championship Event seat.
