2016 Global Poker League Week 9

Rome Emperors vs. Hong Kong Stars
Day: 1

Rome Emperors vs. Hong Kong Stars

Day 1 Completed

Adams Wins Final Heat, Completes 3-0 Sweep

Two big hands have given Timothy Adams the victory in this final heat. The Canadian sweeps Hong Kong Stars' Weiyi Zhang and rakes in nine crucial Global Poker League-points for the Rome Emperors.

In the first hand, Zhang raised it up to 3,200 with {Q-Clubs}{K-Hearts}. Adams shoved all-in for 32,730 with {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} and Zhang made the call.

The {J-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}-flop gave Adams the nut flush, but Zhang flopped two pair and was hoping to see another king or queen appear on turn or river.

The {4-Diamonds} on the turn couldn't save Zhang and neither could the {2-Spades}-river.

A couple of hands Zhang raised to 4,600 with {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} again. This time, Adams was holding {6-Clubs}{A-Spades} and he decided to call.

Zhang bet 3,800 on the {3-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{A-Hearts}-flop and with top pair, Adams made the call. The {6-Diamonds} fell on the turn and Zhang fired out a bet of 8,880. Adams went all-in and Zhang made the call with his gutshot and flush draw.

The river was neither a ten or a heart, but the {4-Spades} instead. Giving Adams his third win of the night and the clean sweep. He rakes in nine points for the Rome Emperors, leaving Weiyi Zhang and the Hong Kong Stars empty handed.

It was a great day for Adams. He took the lead early on in the first heat. Although he had some trouble finishing it off, he took it down after a couple of all-ins.

The second heat quickly went his way. In the final hand, he flopped two pair with his king-three and got it all-in against Zhang's third pair and a flush draw. Zhang couldn't get there and Adams took a 2-0 lead.

In the final match, Adams fell behind a little bit, after a nice river bluff from Zhang. But eventually he was able to complete the sweep.

The Emperors are now in fourth with 110 points, just three points behind the Hong Kong Stars and the London Royals. They surpass the Paris Aviators by two points, but both the Royals and the Aviators have to play later on today.

The next match, which will start in about 30-minutes time, will be between Moscow Wolverines' Anatoly Filatov and Paris Aviators' George Danzer.

Zhang Raises River

Weiyi Zhang took over the lead in this final heat, thanks to a bluff-raise on the river.

In the 500/1,000-level Timothy Adams raised to 2,200 holding {K-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}. Zhang threw in a three-bet to 6,500 with {J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}, Adams made the call.

The flop brought {A-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{4-Spades} and was checked through. Zhang checked again on the {K-Spades}-turn. Adams paired his king and put in a bet of 6,750. Zhang called.

The river was the {10-Diamonds} and Zhang checked a third time. Adams fired a small bet of 4,500 into the 26,700-pot. Zhang put down the hammer with a check-raise to 15,550. Adams gave it a thought, but decided to fold.

Bluff Works for Adams

Things are really going Timothy Adams' way in this match. He just took a small lead in the final heat by bluffing on the river.

Adams raised the big blind of 400 to 1,000 with {4-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}, only to see Weiyi Zhang three-bet to 3,000 holding {A-Spades}{K-Spades}. Adams called and he also called the 2,200 bet on the {9-Spades}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}-flop.

The turn paired the board with the {8-Diamonds}. Zhang checked and Adams bet 2,080. Zhang made the call.

The river was the {9-Clubs}. So now Zhang's ace was good, but he checked again. Adams fired a big bet of 12,500 and Zhang folded.

Adams Takes 2-0 Lead

Timothy Adams raked in another three points for the Rome Emperors. He just won his second heads-up heat against Weiyi Zhang.

Preflop 5,600 points went to the middle, with Adams holding {K-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Zhang had {4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and flopped a flush draw on {10-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}. That flop gave Adams two pair and he put in a bet of 1,655. Zhang called and the {4-Spades} landed on the turn.

Adams fired 7,825 in a 9,000 pot and Zhang went all-in for 35,00 total. Adames didn't waste much time before making the call.

Zhang needed a diamond or a four to stay alive, but the {6-Spades} on the river couldn't save him.

Small Lead for Adams

After winning the first heat, Timothy Adams started off rather well in the second heads-up.

First, he three-bet with {K-Hearts}{A-Diamonds} and Zhang made the call holding {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}. The flop gave {3-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and Adams fired 8,000 in a 12,500 pot. Zhang gave up and lost some more two hands later.

Zhang, with {10-Clubs}{10-Spades}, fired 1,350 into a 3,760 pot on a {5-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}-flop. Adams decided his {3-Hearts}{J-Hearts} was good enough for a raise to 4,600. Zhang tanked for a short time, before he elected to fold.

Adams Wins First Heat

Timothy Adams just won the first heat of this heads-up battle between the Rome Emperors and the Hong Kong Stars. Weiyi Zhang was blinded down to 16,000 chips in the 1,600/3,200-level, but managed to find another double up.

A few hands later Adams got him all-in again. Adams shoved all-in with {K-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and Zhang quickly called with {7-Clubs}{7-Spades}.

Adams needed some help, but didn't got there on the {3-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{Q-Spades}-flop or the {6-Hearts}-turn. However the river brought the {K-Diamonds} giving Adams a higher pair and the win in this first heat.

He adds three much needed points to the total of the Rome Emperors with this win.

Zhang Crippled, but Doubles Up

Timothy Adams had Weiyi Zhang on the ropes in this first heat, but Zhang immediately doubled back up.

Adams fired out a bet of 15,000 points with 17,000 already in the middle. The board was {8-Hearts}{6-Spades}{J-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and that gave Adams a straight with his {7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Zhang had {5-Hearts}{A-Clubs} for a pair of fives and made the call.

He was down to 20,000 chips in the 1k/2k-level and got it all-in the next hand with {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}. Adams called holding {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. The board ran out {Q-Spades}{5-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and Zhang was back in business.
