GPL Week 9 - Clean Sweeps for Adams and Bonomo, Filatov Scores 2-1 Victory

An exciting day of Global Poker League heads-up matches has come to an end. We saw two clean sweeps today in the Eurasia conference mano-a-mano fights.

Timothy Adams was the first one to score three wins today. The Rome Emperors player had Hong Kong Stars' Weiyi Zhang on the ropes early on in the first match. With his king-five, he rivered a king to beat Zhang's pocket sevens to take a 1-0 lead.

In the second match, he quickly pulled away from his opponent. On a {10-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{4-Spades}-board he got it all-in with king-three against the {4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} of Zhang. The river wasn't one of Zhang's out with the {6-Spades} and Adams was already secured of the victory.

The last heat for the final three points was decided by two big hands in the end. In the first one, Adams flopped a flush against Zhang's two pairs. In the second hand, the king-queen from Zhang couldn't beat Adams' ace-six and the Canadian scored the clean sweep. Earning nine crucial points for the Emperors.

Next up was the battle between Anatoly Filatov and George Danzer. The first two heats were lengthy battles but in the end Filatov came out on top.

In the last hand of the first heat, Danzer's nine-eight was dominated by Filatov's ace-eight and it stayed that way. The next heat was decided by a coin flip. Filatov's pocket deuces were victorious against the ace-eight from Danzer.

Danzer struck back a little bit in the last heat. He took the lead early on in the fight and eventually finished it off by making a flush with his {K-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} against Filatov's {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

Filatov probably wasn't very disappointed about that last heat. He still won the match and gave the Moscow Wolverines a decent lead in the Eurasia conference. In the meantime, Filatov himself became the top scorer of the Global Poker League so far. Scoring 56 in his twelve matches, the same amount as Fedor Holz raked in for his team.

The last match of the day was betweenJustin Bonomo and Dominik Nitsche. Bonomo went off to a flying start for his London Royals, winning the first heat in just four hands. Nitsche tried to bluff Bonomo on a {4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}-board, but Bonomo made the correct call with ace-ten.

Nitsche, looking for some costly points fo the Berlin Bears, couldn't get things going in the second heat. He was down early in the match and eventually lost his final chips with ace-ten against Bonomo's jacks.

In the final heat, Nitsche had the better start, but Bonomo fought back. He took over the chip lead and ended it in style with pocket aces.

Thanks to the six points Filatov scored, the Moscow Wolverines still have a big lead in the Eurasia conference. The London Royals are now solely in second after Bonomo's perfect nine points. The Hong Kong Stars are still in a good spot for the playoffs, but the Paris Aviators and Rome Emperors are on their heels. With only the top four reaching the playoffs in Las Vegas, the Berlin Bears need to score big in the next couple of weeks.

Aces Help Bonomo Sweep Nitsche

Justin Bonomo trapped Dominik Nitsche in the final hand of this heads-up match. He limped in with {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and Nitsche pushed all-in for 32,660 chips with {J-Hearts}{K-Spades}. Nitsche announced: "This could be the end of this", and it actually was.

The board ran out {2-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} and Nitsche was drawing dead after the turn. A clean sweep for Bonomo who scores a perfect nine points for the London Royals.

Back in a Couple of Minutes

In just a few minutes the stream will be back online and we'll hope to get you the latest updates of this final heat.

Commentator Jonathan Little just announced in the Twitch-chat, that the game has been paused, so the match is not over yet.

Some Technical Problems

Dominik Nitsche was still the chipleader in this last heads-up battle, but we can't provide you anymore updates at the moment.

There are some technical issues with the Global Poker League-stream. We keep you updated.

Nitsche Picks Off Bonomo's Bluff

Justin Bonomo put Dominik Nitsche to the test with a big overbet bluff on the river.

On a {A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}-board, Bonomo fired a bet of 21,000 into a 14,000-pot.

Bonomo had {J-Clubs}{K-Spades} for just king-high, but Nitsche had a tough call with his {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}.

Nitsche took his time and decided he couldn't let it go. He raked in a huge pot, giving him a nice chiplead in this heat.

Bonomo Wins Again, Takes 2-0 Lead

Dominik Nitsche was left very short after the earlier coin flip. He managed to double up once, with {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades} against Justin Bonomo {A-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Shortly after that, he was down to only 18,000 chips.

Nitsche shoved all-in with {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs} and Bonomo immediately called, holding {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}.

Nitsche was at risk and needed some help. The {2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}-flop gave him a flush draw. The {5-Hearts}-turn gave him some additional straight outs, but he wasn't able to hit one of them. The river was the {8-Spades} and Bonomo could celebrate his second victory in this match.
