"They Got Me Man!"

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Sin Melin
Sin Melin

When leaving the tournament area we stumbled over Sinem Melin and the charity event winner here in Malta quickly recalled her unfortunate Day 2 to us. First she lost two bigger pots with pocket kings and then called with a flush draw without hitting. That left the Brit down to eight big blinds and the chips vanished with {Q-} {10-} versus {A-} {8-}.

Moments later, Vincent Gabel joined and also told his story. The Belgian had flopped a set of sixes on {9-} {6-} {3-} and found one opponent in Sergey Sergeev with both players investing 3,200 into a pot of 7,500. On the {J-Spades} turn, Sergeev bet 6,300 and Gabel just called to see an {8-} on the river.

The Russian got it in with {Q-} {10-} for a back door straight and Gabel's slow play backfired in cruel fashion.

Urbanovich Among Late Level 9 Casualties

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Dzmitry Urbanovich, who won the €25,000 High Roller and two other EPT Malta side events, was the last player to enter the field. Unfortunately for him, his stay was short and not so sweet. We didn't catch his elimination, and we couldn't ask as his table broke by the time we made our way down there. Whatever the case, the man from Poland won't be capturing his fourth title here in the Main Event.

Panka Versus Busquet

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Dominik Panka
Dominik Panka

On the {K-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {5-Spades} turn, both Olivier Busquet and Dominik Panka checked over on table 6. Busquet had registered before the start of Day 2 and already almost doubled up his stack. Panka then bet the {6-Clubs} river for 7,000 and Busquet eventually released his cards.

Hope on the Flop, Broke on the River

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Tomasz Wrobel just ended up all in before the flop for a total of 22,000 chips and as bad as it looked when George Phiniotis turned over his cards, as hopeful he was on the flop.

Wrobel: {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds}
Phiniotis: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}

The flop brought {7-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and Wrobel had about as good of a flop as he could've hoped for, but the turn, the {2-Hearts}, nor the river, the {9-Hearts}, made him beat pocket aces. Phiniotis won the hand and he's now sitting on 68,000 chips.

Lövgren Triples

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Sofia Lövgren shoved all in from the hijack for her last 9,300 in chips. Carlo Vitti over shoved from the cutoff for 10,500 and Brett Angell in the small blind cold called. The big blind folded and it was time for a showdown.

Brett Angell: {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Sofia Lövgren: {J-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}
Carlo Vitti: {A-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

The board ran out {4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and Lövgren tripled up. Vitti made his exit, Angell got the 1,200 change.

Costly Pot for Woodhead

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Stephen Woodhead five-bet shoved for effectively 67,000 and his opponent who had just arrived at the table snap-called the shove with {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}. Woodhead only had the {A-Spades} {K-Spades} and it was all over after the turn of a {7-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} board to leave the Brit with 20 big blinds for the next level.

Litvinov Flushes Golob

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Joining the action on the {J-Spades} {A-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {4-Spades} turn with a pot of 26,000, Christian Golob bet 25,000 and sent Artem Litvinov into the think tank. The Russian tanked and even apologized to the other players at the table for thinking for so long. Litvinov then shoved and some small talk followed before Golob released his cards.

Litvinov turned over the {Q-Spades} {10-Spades} for a flush and Golob sighed. "This guy hits everything!"

Nolte Puts Alvarado in a Tough Spot

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante
JC Alvarado
JC Alvarado

When we arrived on the scene JC Alvarado was already contemplating a big decision, and we pieced the hand together with some help from one of the players at the table.

The player under the gun, Thomas Berends, had raised and Christian Nolte had made the call in middle position. Alvarado had then three-bet to 6,400 from he hijack and from his immediate left it was Remi Castaignon who four-bet to 12,400.

The action then folded to Nolte who pulled off a big move by going all in for 61,900 total.

After we had pieced the had together Alvarado was still in the tank, and eventually he decided to let go of his hand. Castaignon had the dealer pull in all the amounts, but even with only the shove left to call he decided to let go of his hand as well. Nolte raked in a big pot without showdown and he left everyone wondering with what hand he pulled off this move.
