Camosci Paid on River for Aces

Level 5 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

Enrico Camosci open-raised to 4,000 from the button and Steve O'Dwyer called in the big blind.

O'Dwyer checked on the 235 flop and Camosci checked behind. Both players then checked again on the 10 turn. The river came the 7 and O'Dwyer led out for 3,500. Camosci raised it up to 19,000 and O'Dwyer flicked in a chip to call.

Camosci flipped over AA and O'Dwyer mucked. Camosci scooped the pot with aces, which he'd waited until the river to get paid for.

The road to PokerStars European Poker Tour glory always has plenty of twists and turns, and the record-breaking 2023 EPT €5,300 Prague Main Event was no exception.

Jon Kyte, who had led the tournament from Day 3, entered the finale with 229 big blinds and a historic chip lead, one that was assumed to be unassailable. Padraig O'Neill had other ideas and was unexpectedly awarded the final EPT Trophy of the 2023 season after overcoming the Norwegian in heads-up play.

Known affectionately as "Smidge" in the Irish poker community, O'Neill came into the day as the shortest stack and turned his 12 big blinds into a €1,030,000 payout. With the victory, he became Ireland's second-ever EPT Main Event champion, 11 years after Steve O'Dwyer reigned supreme in Monte Carlo.

O'Dwyer Caught Out on River

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Steve O'Dwyer
Steve O'Dwyer

Enrico Camosci raised to 3,000 from the hijack, Mihails Nikitins called on the button, Vladas Tamasauskas called in the small blind, and Steve O'Dwyer called in the big blind to make it a family pot with four players to the flop.

The flop was dealt 527 and Tamasauskas led for 3,000, which all three other players called. The turn came the 8 and Tamasauskas checked. O'Dwyer made it 16,000 to go, Camosci called, Nikitins folded and Tamasauskas called.

The river was the K and Tamasauskas checked again. O'Dwyer pushed out a bet of 49,500, most of his stack. Camosci folded and Tamasauskas moved all in.

This left O'Dwyer in a bit of a pickle. If he folded, he'd be left with less than a small blind. By this point, he seemed to know he was beat, an anguished look on his face as he used up his time bank cards.

O'Dwyer eventually made a resigned call for his remaining chips. He showed J9 for a bluff. Tamasauskas turned over K5 for two pair, kings and fives, to win the pot, eliminating O'Dwyer.
