Karlic's Hero Call Earns Him a Commanding Lead

Level 40 : Blinds 600,000/1,200,000, 1,200,000 ante
Gerald Karlic
Gerald Karlic

Gerald Karlic opened to 2,400,000 on the button and Martin Tsvetanov defended his big blind.

Tsvetanov checked to Karlic, who continued for 1,700,000 on the 7J3 flop. Tsvetanov then check-raised to 5,500,000 and Karlic called.

Karlic called a 9,600,000 barrel from Tsvetanov on the 6 turn and then Tsvetanov announced he was all in after the Q completed the board.

Karlic counted out his remaining 30,600,000 and went deep into the tank as he contemplated his decision. After a few minutes, Karlic slammed in a call and Tsvetanov showed 109 for a whiffed straight draw.

Karlic revealed AJ for a pair of jacks and scooped the massive pot while Tsvetanov was left with just 12,000,000.

Ricardo Caridade limped the big blind, and called a raise to 3,500,000 from Martin Tsvetanov in the big blind.

On the 1064 flop, Caridade check-called a bet of 3,500,000 from his opponent.

The 2 turn followed the same pattern, this time in respect of a bet of 7,000,000 from Tsvetanov.

Matthew Micallef
Matthew Micallef

Gerald Karlic opened to 1,200,000 from middle position, and was faced with a three-bet jam by short-stack Matthew Micallef of 4,950,000 from the small blind. Karlic didn't appear to like it, but after some thought made the call.

Matthew Micallef: J8 All in
Gerald Karlic: A7

Micallef needed some help from the board, and although the K63 flop was sweat free for Karlic, the 9 turn brought Micallef a flush draw. However the 9 river was a brick, and ace-high was good enough to send Micallef to the rail.
