Easy Come, Easy Go For Valls as Miegel Doubles With Aces

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Jakob Miegel
Jakob Miegel

Josep Valls had just doubled up, but couldn't keep his new-found chips for long after a clash with Jakob Miegel to his left.

The full board read 256K6 and all the chips were already in the middle with Miegel's AA being good the pot, as Valls cards were mucked. Some of the TV crew told PokerNews that Valls had pocket nines, which were no good against the pocket aces of Miegel.

With that pot, Miegel jumps up to around 170,000, and Valls drops back to 80,000.

James Uses Live Reads and Puts on His Cape Against Solovev

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Bobby James
Bobby James

Bobby James limped in from the small blind and called when Kirill Solovev made it 7,000 from the from the big blind.

James check-called bets of 8,000 and 15,000 on the flop and turn for the final board to read A76AQ.

James, with around 100,000, behind, checked for a third time, and then went deep into the blender after Solovev moved all in for 34,500.

James asked for the pot to be spread while he mulled over his options, cutting out calling chips from his stack. Ultimately, he settled on a call and Solovev could only roll his eyes in frustration.

James tabled 87 and Solovlev left his seat, leaving his cards face down. The dealer turned them over and revealed 98.

James explained his call to PokerNews. Apparently, Solovev had just had aces cracked in a small pot in the previous hand and appeared tilted. James also commented on how Solovev was betting, almost splashing the pot each time. Additionally, some other live reads helped James make the light call.

James has had a fruitful time at EPT Cyprus, notching 19th and 12th place finishes in the Eureka Main Event and High Roller. Between the two deep runs, James also picked up a Spadie trophy after he triumphed in the $1,100 8-Game for $11,200.

Coelho Finds River Hero-Call

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Diogo Coelho
Diogo Coelho

In a battle of the blinds between players who have already picked up trophies this week, Diogo Coelho and Leo Worthington-Leese, the pot had swollen to 80,000 with a completed board reading 45310J.

Coelho checked to his opponent, who moved all in for around 41,000 with the covering stack. Coelho, who had about 35,000 left behind, looked pained and went into the tank.

After about two minutes, he peered across the dealer trying to get a look at his opponent, who remained stoic throughout. Coelho lent back in his chair, clasped his hands behind his head, and suddenly made the call.

Worthington-Leese tabled A8 for ace-high, having missed his flopped straight draw and turned nut flush draw, while Coelho had 77 for third pair sevens, sending him the double-up and leaving the Brit with crumbs, which was reduced to nothing not much later.

Warburton's Kings Cracked by Arkhipenkov

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Steve Warburton
Steve Warburton

Steven Warburton raised to 4,500 from under the gun and Artur Martirosian called in the cutoff. Anton Arkhipenkov was in the small blind and shoved for 45,000, then Warburton reshoved for around 150,000. Martisosian quickly folded.

Anton Arkhipenkov: AQ All in
Steven Warburton: KK

Arkhipenkov needed to find some help from the dealer and the flop of A1010 was a good start as he paired his ace. Warburton had two outs to regain the lead, but could never find either as the 95 runout meant Arkhipenkov's ace stayed in the lead.

EPT Cyprus Eureka Champs Side-by-Side

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Diogo Coelho
Diogo Coelho

EPT Cyprus Eureka $1,100 Main Event and $2,200 High Roller winners Leo Worthington-Leese and Diogo Coelho are on the same table, sat in the one and eight seat respectively.

Leese took home $314,030 from the $2,662,850 prizepool for his efforts. He finished third in the EPT Monte Carlo Main Event this year for $437,918, so he went two better to claim his first EPT trophy.

Coelho's triumph came on on the heels of a near miss at the 2024 WSOP Main Event, where he bowed out in 10th place for $800,000, just shy of the final table. In Cyprus, he redeemed himself by defeating Italy's Michele Guerrini heads-up, following a deal that saw Coelho claim $357,048 along with the Golden Shard.

Coelho was in action, three-betting to 13,000 from the big blind after Simeon Spasov opened to 4,000 from the button. Spasov called and then called Coelho's continuation bet of 7,500 on the J86 flop. Coelho then check-called for 6,000 on the 2 turn before the 6 river checked through to showdown.

Coelho tabled K2 for sixes and deuces, and Spasov couldn't show anything better, and he mucked his hand.

Hero-Call Backfires for Zhao

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Jiaming Zhao
Jiaming Zhao

At least 40,000 was in the middle, with the board reading J935, in a hand between Jiaming Zhao and Ivan Banic.

Zhao, who had around a pot-sized bet left behind, checked to Banic, who moved all in with the covering stack. Zhao took some time to think, and eventually the clock was called.

With the countdown on, suddenly Zhao made the call.

Jiaming Zhao: 44 All in
Ivan Banic: QQ

Zhao had made the hero-call with fourth pair fours, but had found himself down to two outs versus Banic's overpair queens.

The J river was not one of those outs, and he departed the tournament area. Banic meanwhile moves towards the 300,000 mark.

Three-Way All-In Leaves Macori Short, Blouet Triples

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Federico Macori
Federico Macori

Raphael Blouet had shoved from under the gun for 17,500 and Timur Kurbanov called from the next seat. The action then folded around to Federico Macori in the big blind, who shoved for around 85,000. Kurbanov was in the tank for a while but ultimately decided to call off his remaining 55,000 that he had behind.

Raphael Blouet: 88 All in
Timur Kurbanov: 1010 All in
Federico Macori: AK

Macori had a great spot to eliminate two players and picked up a few more outs on the JQJ flop as another queen would counterfeit his opponent's pocket pairs. However, it was Blouet who shot into the lead on the 8 turn as he improved to a full house, which left Macori drawing dead for the main pot.

Kurbanov was still in the lead for the 110,000-chip side pot, and remained there when the 5 landed on the river, which meant he made a bit of profit on the hand. Blouet tripled up, and Macori was left very short with under 10,000 remaining in his stack.

Double for Bogdanov

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Yulian Bogdanov
Yulian Bogdanov

Around 50,000 was in the middle already on a board of 932J, in a hand between Mircea Flutur in the hijack and Yulian Bogdanov in the small blind.

Bogdanov checked, and Flutur moved all in with the covering stack. Bogdanov, who had around 48,000 behind, couldn't get his chips in quick enough.

Yulian Bogdanov: AJ All in
Mircea Flutur: 53

Bogdanov had turned top pair jacks versus Flutur's third pair, and the Q river confirmed his double-up.
