Leonard Bubbles the Tournament

Level 19 : Blinds 5,000/10,000, 10,000 ante
Amy Leonard

Chien-Chih Weng raised to 20,000 on the button and Maria Lampropulos called out of the small blind. Amy Leonard called for her last 18,000 from the big blind and they went to the flop three-way with Leonard all-in.

Both Lampropulos and Weng checked the flop of 2A5 to see the A come on the turn. Lampropulos bet 10,000 and Weng called.

Both players checked the A river and all three players cards were revealed.

Amy Leonard: 102 All in
Maria Lampropulos: Q3
Chien-Chih Weng: 88

Leonard had improved to a full house, aces full of deuces, but it was in second place to the aces full of eights for Weng. With that, Leonard had bubbled the tournament.

The €550 No-Limit Hold’em Womens Event of the 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona drew a total of 84 entries at the Casino Barcelona.

The clock started with just 21 entrants, but by the time late registration closed, a total of 84 entrants created a €40,320 prize pool. Only 11 of the total entries have made the money, as play stopped just after the bubble burst. Each player returning tomorrow has secured at least a minimum-cash of €1,010, but all will have their eye on the first place payout of €11,350.

Just 11 players return tomorrow, with Anna Gulevich leading the way, after bagging the biggest stack (488,000).

Gulevich was high in the chip counts for most of the day. She began to build her stack after she cracked Yun-Ying Jheng's aces around halfway through the day. She continued to build the pressure throughout the evening to secure the chip lead. Like all the other players, she will have her eyes on the top payout which would be her second-best tournament cash, after she came second earlier this year in the €250 No Limit Hold'em - Liam Flood Memorial 6-Max Turbo at the Irish Poker Open 2024 for €16,165.

Joy Waldau (365,000) and Olga Iermolcheva (307,000) also bagged top stacks, both starting Day 2 with over 30 big blinds.

Many familiar faces join the field, but not all of them secured a bag into Day 2.

It was a short tournament for WSOP 2024 Ladies Event Champion Shiina Okamoto as she was the first player who busted the tournament, less than an hour into the day after losing to Jerome Gras’ nut-flush.

Jen Shahade’s tournament also came to an end despite building a stack early on. She was eliminated during Level 9, after a solid five hours of play.

Marle Spragg had a good run but was eliminated near the money after getting it all in on a jack-high flop with top pair, but she was out-kicked against Eva Slovikova for the pot.

The 11 remaining players will restart on Saturday, September 7, at noon local time and play down to a winner. Play will resume at Level 19 with blinds at 5,000/10,000 and 10,000 big blind ante, with 24 minutes left in the level.

The PokerNews Live Reporting team will be providing coverage from the tournament floor until a winner is crowned, so keep it here for updates from the 2024 PokerStars European Poker Tour Barcelona at Casino Barcelona.
