A total of 654 Players entered into Day 1b of the €2,200 Estrellas Poker Tour High Roller of the PokerStars Estrellas Poker Tour (ESPT) at Casino Barcelona, with only 98 qualifying for Day 2 from this second flight. The tournament saw 2,064 entries for both combined flights. A total of 309 players, out of these total entries, made in through to battle it out in Day 2. All players that bagged today made it into the money, and will share a total prize pool of €3,962,880.

Rayane Mokhtar took through an impressive stack after bagging 780,000 chips and becoming the chip lead at the end of play of Day 1b. Mokhtar has already had a successful year after being crowned the BPC Main Event Champion back in May and taking home a massive 200,000 EUR prize.

Marte Sandberg (627,000) kept the pressure on against her opponents and was sitting high in the chip counts throughout the day, helping her to finish fourth in the chip counts for Day 1b.

Rania Nasreddine also steadily built her stack throughout the day, which was helped when she took down the pot in a hand against Panagiotis Mavritsakis, late into the evening. She bagged 466,000 chips, putting her in a strong position going into Day 2.

Berthold Winz (524,000) took a late lead in chips after a pair of sixes were enough to chip him up and eliminate Conor Beresford. Although he didn't retain the lead, Winz remained high in the counts, finishing the day strong within the top ten.

Others tried their luck but weren't able to find a bag into Day 2, including William Kassouf, who went “Out with Nine High Like a Boss".

Shiina Okamoto, the 2024 WSOP Ladies Event Champion and the 2023 WSOP Ladies Event runner-up, also battled it out in Day 1b. After a few hours of play, she got knocked down and eventually knocked out of the tournament short after late registration had ended.

Despite a strong start to the day for Fintan Hand, after scoring a near double and knocking out an opponent early on, Hand was eliminated after around 4 hours of play.

Day 2 will start tomorrow, 1st of September at 12 p.m. local time. The 309 remaining players will discover the payout at the beginning of the day. But so far, everyone who has made it through is guaranteed to cash.

Don't go anywhere, as the PokerNews live reporting team is on-site here on the coast of Spain and will continue providing updates on the ESPT and EPT Barcelona action.

Beresford Baffled Then Busted by Winz

Level 17 : Blinds 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Conor Beresford
Conor Beresford

After Berthold Winz opened in the hijack to 17,000, Conor Beresford moved all in for about 135,000 from the big blind.

A misunderstanding of communication led Beresford to think that Winz had folded his cards as Winz showed 86, but with Beresford still holding his cards and about to muck them, Winz insisted that he said "call" with the raggedy holding, saying he thought he had pocket eights.

Beresford seemed stunned but placed his holding on the table as well and he was now at risk, but ahead.

Berthold Winz: 86

The flop came 432 adding a gutshot straight draw to Winz's list of outs.

One of them came in on the turn with the 6, leaving Beresford drawing to an ace or a ten.

The Q on the river was neither of those and after the confusing hand, Beresford was surprised to be heading to the rail after thinking he was picking up some chips with the bubble approaching.

Nasreddine Building Big

Level 16 : Blinds 2,000/5,000, 5,000 ante
Rania Nasreddine

About 80,000 was already in the middle by a flop of KJ3 when Panagiotis Mavritsakis bet 55,000 from under-the-gun into Rania Nasreddine in the hijack. Nasreddine called and the 2 fell on the turn.

Mavritsakis took his time using up just under two minutes before betting 34,000. Nasreddine took much less time before cutting out and making a raise to 70,000.

Mavritsakis took another couple of minutes with this decision before eventually folding to preserve his remaining 80,000 chips.

Kassouf Goes Out with Nine High Like a Boss

Level 13 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
William Kassouf

About 55,000 was in the middle on a turn board of 862A and Marte Sandberg had checked her big blind to Will Kassouf on the button.

Kassouf moved all in for his last 39,000, sending Sandberg into the tank. After over a minute of thought, she made the call, only to hear the words Kassouf made famous.

"Nine high like a boss," he proudly declared as he revealed that he indeed had his trademark hand and would need help.

Marte Sandberg: KK

Kassouf's nine-high (like a boss) needed another spade or a seven to come on the river to avoid elimination, but the 10 fell instead, sending the pot to Sandberg and ending Kassouf's day in the tournament.

After the hand, Kassouf joked with the PokerNews live reporting team, "I need to quit doing that. It's getting me in trouble."
