Dongwoo Ko Bags the Lead in Day 1 of €10,200 No-Limit Hold'em

Level 10 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Dongwoo Ko

Although there are just a handful of events left in the 2024 European Tour Barcelona, plenty of high-stakes players have remained and are eager to play in the biggest tournaments available here at Casino Barcelona.

As expected, many of them found their way over to €10,200 No-Limit Hold'em. After a quick Day 1 that attracted 36 entries, Dongwoo Ko emerged as the overall chip leader of the 16 remaining players after bagging 398,000. Not far behind him is Jan Eric Schwippert with 380,000, and rounding out the top three is Andrey Andreev, who managed to end with 322,000.

Ko won his first Spadie just a few short days ago after besting an 18-entry field in the €5,200 8-Game event, which included some top talent such as Benny Glaser and Mike Watson. The Canadian pro is also riding high off of his momentum from a victory in the WPT Montreal Championship earlier this year, in which he cinched a career-best score for $319,216.

Action of the Day

Finnish poker pro Juha Helppi, who made a late appearance at EPT Barcelona, hopped into the mix and got off to a hot start after doubling with jacks in just the second level. Helppi's stack continued to trend upward for the rest of the day through well-timed value bets and aggressive play and he ended with 314,000 — good for fourth place overall heading into Day 2.

Stoyan Madanzhiev managed to bag a top-ten stack, thanks in part to making a sick hero call with ten-high against Arthur Conan's counterfeited pair toward the end of play.

Faring less well was Ren Lin, who joined the fray about half way through Day 1 and wasted no time getting involved in pots. Lin had a couple bluffs picked off and suffered some beats en route to busting two bullets before calling it a night.

Samuel Ju also had a night to forget and ended up dusting three bullets, including one where he got coolered by Ko in a full-house over full-house setup.

Other players who entered, but fell short include Franck Makaci, Michel Molenaar, Marcelo Bonanata and Teun Mulder.

All players who failed to bag still have until the start of play on Day 2 to reenter, at which point late registration will close. The action is set to resume tomorrow, September 8, at noon local time and play down until a winner.

Be sure to stick with PokerNews as we continue to bring you all the action from this and other events right up until the final day of the 2024 EPT Barcelona!

Madanzhiev Calls Down Conan With Ten-High

Level 10 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Stoyan Madanzhiev
Stoyan Madanzhiev

Stoyan Madanzhiev raised the button to 8,000 and Arthur Conan defended his big blind.

On the JQ5 flop, Conan check-called a bet of 10,000 from Madanzhiev.

Both checked the Q turn to see the J drop on the river. Conan led out with a bet of 50,000, then Madanzhiev used some extra time before he made the call.

Conan showed 52 for a counterfeited pair, and Madanzhiev showed 109 and won the pot with ten-high.

Ju KO'd by Ko

Level 10 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Dongwoo Ko

Three ways on a flop of JJ4, Jeremie Zouari checked from the small blind and Samuel Ju checked from the big blind to Dongwoo Ko, who bet 7,000. Both Zouari and Ju called.

Action checked to Ko again on the 4 turn and he barreled 14,000 into the middle. This time, only Ju called.

The Q completed the board and Ju checked a final time. Ko announced he was all in — sending Ju deep into the tank.

"Do you have the jack?" Ju muttered as he contemplated his decision.

Eventually, Ju put in his last 67,000 and Ko turned over AJ for jacks-full. Ju showed he held Q4 for an inferior full house and was eliminated.

Zobian Spikes Broadway to Leave Lin Short-Stacked

Level 10 : Blinds 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Ren Lin
Ren Lin

Ren Lin and Aram Zobian got their very similar stacks of around 150,000 into the middle preflop with Lin the clear favorite.

Lin kept his lead after the 4QK flop but the 10 turn gave Zobian Broadway. An ace on the river was the only way that Lin could salvage anything from the pot but instead the J dropped, which improved him to a meaningless set.

Kings For Ko

Konstantyn Holskyi opened to 6,000 from the hijack and Aram Zobian called in the cutoff before David Dongwoo Ko made it 28,000 out of the small blind. Both Holskyi and Zobian called.

On the 1089 flop, all three checked around to the 5 turn. Ko and Holskyi checked, Zobian bet 28,000, and only Ko called.

Both checked it to showdown on the J river where Ko tabled KK, which earned him the pot as Zobian mucked.

Ju Doubles; Korznin Thinks He is Eliminated

Level 6 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Samuel Ju

With around 18,000 chips in the middle on a flop of 9Q5, Jan Eric Schwippert checked, Vladimir Korzinin bet 15,000, Samuel Ju called, and Schwippert folded.

A 5 came on the turn and after Korzinin checked, Ju shoved for 63,000. Korzinin used some extra time then eventually made the call which put Ju at risk.

Samuel Ju: 66 All in
Vladimir Korzinin: J10

Korzinin probably had more outs than he imagined but never found any of them as the 3 river kept Ju's pair of sixes in the lead. At the end of the hand, Korzinin started to walk away from the table but the dealer reminded him that he still had chips behind, much to his surprise.

Bonanata Gets a Massive Double Through Korzinin

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Marcelo Bonanata
Marcelo Bonanata

Vladimir Korzinin opened to 3,500 from under the gun and was called by Marcelo Bonanata in the big blind.

Bonanata check-called a 3,000 bet from Korzinin on the 910Q flop and then check-raised a 5,500 bet from Korzinin to 15,000 after the 8 fell on the turn.

Korzinin announced he was all in and Bonanata snap-called to put himself at risk for approximately 150,000.

Marcelo Bonanata: KJAll in
Vladimir Korzinin: QJ

Both players held a straight, but Manfredini held the king-high straight to leave Korzinin drawing to a chop.

The 4 river changed nothing and Korzinin was forced to surrender the majority of his chip stack over to Bonanata.

Bonanata Turns Broadway and Gets Livschitz to Pay

Level 4 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Victoria Livschitz
Victoria Livschitz

Samuel Ju raised to 3,000 from under the gun which Marcelo Bonanata and Vladimir Korzinin both called. Victoria Livschitz was on the button and made it 12,000, then Ju & Bonanata called, and Korzinin folded.

On the 9A10 flop, all three players checked to the J turn. Ju bet 12,000, which Bonanata & Livschitz both called.

When the 8 dropped on the river, Ju slowed down with a check. Bonanata bet 27,000, Livschitz called, and Ju folded.

Bonanata showed KQ for Broadway and Livschitz flashed the Q before she mucked.

Adomkevicius Reads Tamasauskas Like a Book

Vladas Tamasauskas

Aneris Adomkevicius opened the button to 3,500 and Vladas Tamasauskas made it 13,500 from the big blind. Adomkevicius called.

The action slowed up as it was checked to the river on the 9A6410 board where Tamasauskas checked, and Adomkevicius had something to say.

"Do you have queen-six?" asked Adomkevicius before he checked back.

Tamasauskas showed K6 for a pair of sixes, and Adomkevicius flashed the K before mucking.

"I read you like a book," said Adomkevicius to Tamasauskas.
