Ponakovs Flops It to Bust Sturm

Aleksejs Ponakovs raised to 15,000 from the small blind. Leon Sturm called in the big blind.

Ponakovs continued for 5,000 on a flop of 3♥6♥6♠. Sturm raised to 16,000 and Ponakovs called.

Ponakovs checked-called a bet of 19,000 from Sturm, on the 9♥ turn.

The 2♦ river saw Ponakovs check again. Sturm placed a bet of 34,000, leaving himself one single 1,000 denomination chip behind. Ponakovs moved all in and Sturm went into the tank.

After toying with his singular chip, Sturm announced "I could keep this... but I'm not going to," as he placed it into the middle. Ponakovs showed 6♣3♣ for a flopped full house. Sturm held J♠J♣ and was sent to the rail.

The EPT Cyprus Main Event livestream kicks off on Wednesday, October 18, at 12:30 EEST (11:30 CEST) with Day 2 action. The cards-up coverage continues with Day 3 on Thursday, Day 4 on Friday, and Day 5 on Saturday, all starting at the same time as Day 2.

Finally, the event climaxes with the much-awaited Final Table on Sunday, October 22, starting at 13:00 EEST (12:00 CEST).

For fans worldwide, English-language coverage on the central/global channels will be hosted by renowned poker commentators James Hartigan, Joe Stapleton, Griffin Benger, Nick Walsh, and Maria Ho. In addition to the central channel, there will also be streams on the French, Spanish and Brazilian channels with broadcasts also in German and Italian.

Aleksejs Ponakovs limped in under the gun. Hassan Nashar raised to 19,000 from the small blind and Ponakovs called.

Nashar continued for 13,000 on a flop of Q♦6♣10♦. Ponakovs responded with a raise to 26,000 and Nashar was forced to fold.

"I Don't Need Time to Think"

Tamas Adamszki raised to 7,000 from late position, Hassan Nashar called on the button and Dylan DeStefano called in the big blind.

The flop came Q♣3♠J♥. Action checked to Nashar, who made it 22,000 to go. Both players called the bet. The turn came the 6♦ and all three players checked.

The river was the Q♦. DeStefano checked, then Adamszki went into his time bank before also checking.

"Too much thinking. I don't need time to think," said Nashar before shoving his remaining 69,000 chips into the middle. DeStefano looked him up.

Nashar showed J♣2♥ for two pair, jacks and the queens on board. DeStefano showed J♠9♥ for the same two pair, but his nine-kicker played to give him the pot. Nashar was eliminated and announced that he was heading to the registration desk to fire again.
