Wild Ride for Thorel, Grafton the Beneficiary
Fedor Holz was seen getting up from his seat as his pocket aces were cracked by Jean-Noel Thorel who turned a straight with jack-ten offsuit. Thorel built his stack up to around 330,000 but then disaster struck in the form of Sam Grafton.
The board read and Thorel tossed in a bet of 25,000 into a pot of around 60,000. Grafton check-raised to 85,000 and Thorel responded with a three-bet to 160,000. Grafton called and the spiked the river.
Grafton checked and Thorel ripped all in for 142,000. Grafton snapped him off and tabled for a rivered straight. Thorel sat in disbelief as he was forced to show for top pair, while Grafton apologized for the suckout.
"You don't have to win the tournament on Day 1," Duco ten Haven pointed out as Grafton built a seven-figure stack already.
