Last year, Haoxiang Wang got as close as you can to winning a European Poker Tour EPT Main Event, going into the final table at EPT Barcelona as the chip leader but ultimately having to settle for second.

In Monte Carlo, there’s a chance for redemption as his countrymate and roommate here in Monaco Wei Huang now sits at the €5,300 EPT Monte Carlo Main Event final table big stage with the golden trophy and €827,700 on the line.

“Last year I lost the championship, so I really want my friend to win, so I can touch the trophy,” Wang told PokerNews.

Wei Huang
Wei Huang

Wei Huang limped in with the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} on the button and Viktor Katzenberger raised to 700,000 in the big blind with the {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}. Huang limp-raised to 2,700,000 and Katzenberger folded to see Huang jump back into the lead.

Huang then raised the {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} from the cutoff to 320,000 and Manig Loeser defended the {k-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. The {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} flop gave Loeser top pair, which he checked, and Huang bet 250,000. Loeser called and the {5-Clubs} turn paired the board.

Loeser now led for 475,000 and Huang gave it some thought before making the call. The {8-Clubs} came on the river and both players checked to award the pot and chip lead to Loeser.
