Newey Check-Raises the River
Paul Newey, who finished runner-up in this event back in 2014 for €557,090 and who final tabled both the HK$250,000 (2nd for HK$3,507,000/$452,171) and HK$500,000 (3rd for HK$3,208,000/$413,624) high rollers at last month's ACOP in Macau, opened to 2,500 under the gun.
Orpen Kisacikoglu, sitting right next to him, called.
The flop came and Newey and Kisacikoglu both checked. The hit the turn and Newey checked again. Kisacikoglu bet 2,000 and Newey called.
With the completing the board, Newey checked for the third time. Kisacikoglu bet 5,500 and was soon facing a check-raise by Newey to 16,000. Kisacikoglu tanked for just a bit before he called.
Newey tabled for runner-runner top two, but that hand was soon going face down into the muck as Kisacikoglu showed for the flopped set.
