Hand #34: Newey Flops the Nuts and Doubles

Level 20 : 40,000/80,000, 10,000 ante

Hand #34: From first position Kurganov opened for 160,000 holding {Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}. Big blind Paul Newey defended his big blind with the {10-Hearts}{8-Hearts}.

The {J-Spades}{7-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop was about as good as they could come for Newey and he checked. Kurganov bet 140,000 and Newey made the call.

The {6-Clubs} hit the turn and Newey checked again with 530,000 behind. 700,000 in the pot now and Kurganov shoved all in. Newey made one of the fastest calls in the history of the game.

"Sh#t" said Kurganov, "Ten eight?"

Kurganov soon got the bad news that Newey indeed had ten-eight. The {K-Diamonds} on the turn sealed the deal and Newey doubled.
