James Akenhead
James Akenhead

James Akenhead, former World Series of Poker Main Event and WSOP Europe Main Event finalist, is up past 100,000 chips and cruising along here in Prague.

Arne Kern opened to 1,100 from under the gun, two players folded, and BlazeJ Przygorzewski put in a raise of his own to 3,400. One player folded and James Akenhead four-bet to 7,900. The action passed to Kern and he folded. Przygorzewki asked the dealer to confirm Akenhead's bet size and once armed with the information, let his hand go.

Selbst Gives It Up on the Turn

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Vanessa Selbst
Vanessa Selbst

Action folded to Darrell Goh in the cutoff and he raised to 1,100, which Rui Ferreira called from the button. Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst then three-bet to 3,800 from the small blind, Goh got out of the way, and Ferreira called to see the flop, which came down {5-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}.

Selbst continued for 4,300, Ferreira called, and the dealer burned and turned the {8-Hearts}.

Selbst slowed down with a check, and Ferreira fired out 9,400. Selbst hit the tank for several minutes and ultimately released her hand.

Novitckii Catches a Lucky Turn

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Vladimir Novitckii is up to 74,000 after catching an ace on the turn in a pot with Wael Sarkis.

A raising war broke out that resulted in Novitckii push all-in for around 30,000, a bet that sent Sarkis into the tank for more than two minutes. He eventually emerged with a call, turning over {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} a he did so. Novitckii showed {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} and looked in bad shape on the {2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{7-Clubs} flop. However, the {A-Diamonds} turn changed his fortunes, and when the {4-Clubs} landed on the turn, Novitckii's double was complete.

Popov Takes a Big Hit

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

After a player in early position raised to 1,100, Gaspare Nastasi three-bet all in for 12,550 from the cutoff. Thomas Popov then four-bet all in from the big blind for 21,000, and the original raiser folded.

Nastasi: {q-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Popov: {10-Spades}{10-Clubs}

The {j-Clubs}{q-Spades}{10-Hearts} flop gave both players a set, but of course Nastasi's was best. Neither the {4-Hearts} turn nor {3-Spades} river changed anything, and Nastasi shipped the double while Popov was left with just 9,000.

Tedeschi Puzzled By Hansen's Preflop Call

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Vladas Tamasauskas made it 1,100 to go from early position, Soren Hansen made it 2,700 a couple of seats along, before Paul Tedeschi four-bet to 7,200. Tamasauskas folded, but Hansen called.

Despite the exciting preflop, the duo checked down the {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{9-Hearts} board, and Hansen won with {Q-Clubs}{8-Clubs} when Tedeschi mucked.

Tedeschi seemed perplexed at Hansen's preflop call and turned around to chat to his fellow Frenchman, Adrien Allain, about the hand.

Another Team PokerStars Pro Down

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Luca Pagano
Luca Pagano

Dermot Blain opened for 1,200 from the cutoff and was met by a three-bet to 2,800 from Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano on the button. Both blinds folded, Blain three-bet big, and Pagano opted to call off for roughly 17,000.

Pagano: {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs}
Blain: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}

It was a flip, but Pagano was the one that needed to improve to stay alive. That proved easier said than done though as the board ran out a clean {9-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{3-Clubs}.

Aido on Life Support

Level 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Sergio Aido raised from the cutoff — how much we're not sure — and Cheng-Wei Yin defended the big blind to see an {a-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop. Yin proceeded to check-call a bet of 500 and then check-called one of 2,500 on the {10-Clubs} turn. When the {6-Hearts} completed the board on the river, Yin checked for a third time and Aido slowed down by checking behind.

Yin tabled the {a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, and it was good as Aido mucked his hand.
