Soulier Eliminates Kempe; Mo Busted

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Fabrice Soulier check-shipped for about 30,000 effective on a {q-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} flop from the big blind. Rainer Kempe, who had bet 7,800 from under the gun, snap-called with {k-}{q-}. He had Soulier's {q-Clubs}{3-Clubs} crushed, and both players turned trips as the {q-Diamonds} hit, giving Soulier some outs to chop. Instead, he took it all on the {3-Diamonds} river, a brutal three-outer to eliminate Kempe.

At a nearby table, Jason Mo appears to have lost his remaining stack, as he was seen exiting the room.

Overbet Alert

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Pierre Neuville opened to 5,600 from early position and Mustapha Kanit made the call in position. Ariel Celestino in the big blind over called.

Celestino checked to Neuville on {A-Spades}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades} and the Belgian serial qualifier bet 7,700. Kanit made the call, Celestino did so as well.

Celestino checked again with the appearance of the {8-Spades} on the turn. Neuville checked as well. Kanit grabbed the opportunity and made a bet of 22,000. Celestino called, Neuville raised his eyebrows and folded.

The {K-Clubs} fell on the river and Celestino checked. Kanit grabbed three blue 5,000 chips and glanced at a 20-high stack of red chips worth a 1,000. After another second he grabbed a 20-high stack of 5,000 chips to add and moved the total two towers worth 135,000 forward.

Now it was Celestino doing the frowning, seeming a bit puzzled by what had just happened.

After a minute or so, Celestino folded and Kanit showed the {9-Hearts} with a big grin.

Popov Climbs the Counts While Sending Chen to the Rail

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

We saw Canada's Thomas Popov, a PokerStars qualifier, sitting with a massive pile of chips. We inquire as to how he got them, and were told it was due in part to a double elimination.

From what we were told, Popov opened for 4,000 under the gun and a player moved all in from middle position for right around 50,000. Andrew Chen then moved all in over the top from the cutoff for 60,000 or so, the button and blinds all folded, and Popov made the call with pocket kings.

The middle-position player held {a-}{q-}, Chen {j-}{j-}, and the board ran out clean. That was great news for Popov, who finds himself among the biggest stacks in the room.

Kanit Can Lose

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante

Yesterday the €50,000 Super High Roller turbo event was played, and Mustapha Kanit came out on top, winning €936,500 by beating the 66-strong field. Kanit already had a good stack going into the main event at that point, he played the day before on Day 1a and gathered 138,000 in those first 8 levels.

He worked that stack up to over 200,000 so far today, but lost a small pot just now.

The player in the hijack opened to 4,700 and Kanit called on the button. Sergio Aido in the big blind came along to see a flop of {4-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Aido checked, the initial raiser bet 7,600, Kanit called, Aido folded.

Both players checked the {8-Hearts} on the turn and the {3-Diamonds} hit the river. The hijack checked once more, and Kanit bet 13,000. A snap-call followed, and Kanit showed {A-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} for two pair with an ace. The hijack tabled {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts} and took it down.

Selbst Eliminates Price

Level 13 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Oliver Price
Oliver Price

Vanessa Selbst raised from the small blind, and rival Oliver Price made it 22,000 in the big blind. Selbst responded by shoving all in, putting Price at risk for about 80,000. The British player went deep into the tank, thinking for around four minutes before the clock was called. More than halfway through the countdown, he called.

Selbst: {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Price: {a-Spades}{6-Spades}

A community of {j-Hearts}{3-Spades}{6-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts} left Price penniless and Selbst with one of the bigger stacks in the tournament.
