Sammartino Doubles Through Stadler

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Johnny Lodden opened to 3,500 in middle position, and Dario Sammartino reraised to 8,600 on his left. One fold later, Alexander Stadler cold four-bet to 18,000 from the cutoff. Lodden took awhile and cut out some chips but decided to fold. Sammartino slid out a tower of chips for a five-bet, sweeping in his previous bet.

"How much do you have behind?" Stadler asked, seeing that Sammartino had made it 30,000.

"About 40," Sammartino said.

Stadler called, and Sammartino bet just 10,600 on the {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop. Stadler said he was all in, and Sammartino snapped with {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}. Top two was miles ahead of Stadler's {a-Spades}{q-Spades}, and the near miracle chance for a comeback became zero on the {3-Diamonds} turn.

Sammartino made his mark on European Poker Tour Monte Carlo already with a fourth-place finish in the €100,000 Super High Roller and is looking for a deep run in the main event now.
