Colman Escapes Potential Disaster

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Hand #43: Olivier Busquet raised to 80,000 under the gun with the {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and Rono Lo called him with the {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} from one spot over. Daniel Colman then called with the {10-Hearts}{10-Spades}, and amazingly Kurganov, who was the fourth player to act, picked up the {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} in the hijack. He put in a three-bet to 300,000, which no doubt looked like a squeeze.

Action folded back to Busquet, and he promptly folded. Lo did the same, and then Colman thought long and hard before making what turned out to be a correct lay down.

Small Pots

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Hand #40: Cates opened under the gun plus one to 80,000 with {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}. Ole Schemion in the big blind with {A-Spades}{8-Clubs} made the call.

220,000 in the pot and Schemion flopped best: {A-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}. Schemion checked to Cates who fired a 80,000 continuation bet. Schemion called.

Another ten on the turn, the {10-Diamonds}, and Schemion checked once more. Cates checked behind with the flush draw he picked up.

{4-Spades} on the river and Schemion's ace was good. With 380,000 in the pot, he bet out 110,000. Cates thought about his options, but folded eventually.

Hand #41: Action folded to Igor Kurganov on the button who opened for 80,000 with {A-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. Both blinds folded and Kurganov gained some chips yet again.

Hand #42: Ole Schemion opened the button for 80,000 holding {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Paul Phua with {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} in the small blind made the call. Daniel Cates added 40,000 with a mere {7-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} from the big blind.

{A-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{9-Hearts} on the flop. Phua checked and so did Cates. Schemion, with the best hand, bet out 125,000. Phua and Cates folded rather quickly and Schemion won the hand.

Busquet Finds a Couple Spots

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Hand #35: Igor Kurganov opened for 80,000 from the hijack holding the {q-Clubs}{j-Spades} and Ole Schemion called from the cutoff with the {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}. The {k-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds} flop was no help to either player, and neither was the {8-Diamonds} turn after they had both check. The action repeated itself, and then the board paired on the river with the {8-Spades}. Kurganov decided to lead out for 160,000, and it did the trick as Schemion laid down the best hand.

Hand #36: Rono Lo raised to 80,000 under the gun with the {a-Spades}{2-Spades}, and Ole Schemion three-bet it to 225,000 with the {q-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} in the hijack. Olivier Busquet then moved all in for 655,000 with the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} in the big blind, and Lo snap-folded. Schemion wasn't getting too bad of a price, but he gave it some serious thought before releasing.

Hand #37: Dan Cates raised to 80,000 from the cutoff with the {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and he won the blinds and antes.

Hand #38: Dan Cates raised to 80,000 from the hijack with the {8-Clubs}{6-Clubs}, but this time he wouldn't take it down so easy as Olivier Busquet three-bet to 200,000 from the button. Action folded back to Cates and he released his hand.

Hand #39: Ole Schemion raised to 85,000 under the gun with the {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and Dan Cates called from middle position with the {9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Igor Kurganov came along from the big blind, and three players took a flop of {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{2-Spades}. All three players checked, and then did the same on the {5-Diamonds} turn. Kurganov then bet 75,000 on the {3-Clubs} river and Cates looked him up with the best hand.

Aces and Kings

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Hand #33: Richard Yong opened the hand with a raise to 80,000 holding {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}. Everybody folded, raise and take it for Yong with the aces.

Hand #34: Under the gun plus two it was Rono Lo with {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} who made it 90,000. Again a big pair, but this time there would be some action. Paul Phua in the small blind made the call with {A-Hearts}{10-Hearts}. Cates came along from the big blind with the {2-Spades} and one yet undisclosed card.

{4-Spades}{5-Spades}{9-Spades} on the flop and both blinds checked to Lo. On the all spades flop he made a 130,000 continuation bet into the 310,000 pot with his red kings. Phua folded but Cates made the call with at least a flush draw.

The {A-Diamonds} fell on the turn, making the board even scarier for Lo. Both players checked and the {6-Spades} fell on the river. We now for sure knew Cates had the winning hand, but still there was only one card displayed.

Both players checked and Cates showed his {10-Spades}{2-Spades} to everybody and Lo mucked his hand.

From the Short Stack to Legitimate Contention

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Hand #31: Dan Cates opened for 80,000 from early position with the {k-Spades}{7-Spades} and took down the blinds and antes.

Hand #32: Rono Lo limped from the cutoff with the {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} only to have Igor Kurganov raise all in for 765,000 with the {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} in the small blind.

"How much?" Ole Schemion asked after looking down at the {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}. He then moved all in over the top for 3.17 million. Lo folded and it was off to the races. The {5-Hearts}{8-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop was safe for Kurganov, as was the {3-Spades}. All he had to do was dodge an ace and king on the river, which he did when the {9-Diamonds} blanked. Ship another double to the Russian.

Colman All In!

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Daniel Colman
Daniel Colman

Hand #30: Action folded to Rono Lo in the small blind. Lo, holding {9-Hearts}{4-Spades}, raised it up to 95,000. Daniel Colman with {10-Hearts}{6-Hearts} in the big blind, made the call.

230,000 in the pot, {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} on the flop and Lo checked. Colman checked behind and improved to two pair on the {6-Spades} turn. With 100% next to Colman's name, Lo checked again. Colman bet out 110,000 and Lo raised it up to 600,000 with just nine-high.

Colman thought about it for quite some time. The pot had grown to 940,000 by now and Colman had 1.3 million behind. He shoved all in and Lo had no other option than to fold.

Small Pots

Level 17 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Hand #25: Daniel Colman opened the cutoff for 85,000 with {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and Paul Phua in the big blind with {Q-Hearts}{3-Hearts} was the only caller.

Both players checked on {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and the {6-Spades} fell on the turn. Phua bet out 110,000 as a semi bluff, Colman made the call. The river came the {2-Spades} and both players checked again. Colman took it down with his turned pair of sixes.

Hand #26: Olivier Busquet opened for 80,000 with {Q-Hearts}{J-Spades} under the gun plus one. Everybody folded, the short stack gained a few chips.

Hand #27: Paul Phua opened on the button with {J-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and both blinds folded. Phua took down pot number 27.

Hand #28: Daniel Colman opened under the gun plus one with {K-Spades}{Q-Spades} for 85,000. Everybody folded, pot to Colman.

Hand #29: Paul Phua raised it up to 85,000 from the hijack holding {A-Spades}{4-Clubs}. Everybody folded, Phua took it down.
