Katchalov Crushed

Level 5 : 150/300, 25 ante

Eugene Katchalov

Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov’s tournament has come to an abrupt end at the hands of Antonio Subtil.

Katchalov did not have the best of days and had been down to around 5,000 chips for the past level or so. This short-stack found itself in the middle of the felt after a brief preflop raising war with Subtil, Katchalov holding {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} and Subtil the far stronger {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.

The all-diamond {4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop caused a few gasps from those seated next to Katchalov, but the gaspers soon realized Katchalov’s diamond outs were dead due to Subtil holding the {Q-Diamonds} in his hand. This meant Katchalov was drawing to one of the two remaining nines in the deck, the {2-Clubs} on the turn was not one of them, and neither was the {Q-Hearts} on the river. Katchalov is gone.
