Praising the River Check Raise
There's something sexy about the river check-raise. Still today you have card rooms in Las Vegas that explicitly mention in the rules on the wall that check-raising is permitted, a relic to the times that check-raising was looked upon as unfriendly and unsportsmanlike. Today it is permitted but you still don't see the move all that often.
With a board on the table, Dominik Nitsche had checked to his opponent. Martin Prager bet 3,300 and Nitsche raised it up to 10,500. There it was, the river check raise! Prager made the call but soon tossed his cards into the muck as Nitsche tabled for the flush.
There's only one thing more sexy than the river check-raise and that's the triple crown of check-raising; doing it on every street. Add a limp reraise preflop, do it all as a bluff and pull it off, well you might just make it into the PokerNews poker history books.
