O'Dwyer Done and Dusted

Steve O'Dwyer on Day 1.
Steve O'Dwyer on Day 1.

Steve O'Dwyer began the day as the big chip leader after rebuying on Day 1, but he was unable to carryover his momentum to Day 2; in fact, the Communications graduate from Pennsylvania, who has finished runner-up in the EPT London Main Event and in the EPT Campione €10,000 event, was stuck in reverse the entire day.

In a recent hand, action folded around to O'Dwyer on the button and he moved all in for a little over 300K. Artem Litvinov was in the big blind and opted to call off for 273K.

Showdown
Litvinov: {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
O'Dwyer: {10-}{10-}

The {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} flop was kind to O'Dwyer, so much so that Litvinov got up and prepared to leave. The dealer then burned and turned the {A-Hearts}. "Ace?" Litvinov asked with renewed hope. Sure enough, the bullet gave him the lead, while the {6-Hearts} river gave him the double.

Left with just 45,000, O'Dwyer shoved when action folded to him in the cutoff on the very next hand. JC Alvarado isolated on the button, both blinds folded, and the cards were turned up:

Showdown
Alvarado: {7-}{7-}
O'Dwyer: {A-Spades}{4-Hearts}

This time it was O'Dwyer who was looking for an ace, but he would be left wanting as the board ran out an uneventful {9-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. With that, the start-of-the-day chip leader was sent home shy of the money in 13th place.
